Question Poker Help on Basically Everything!

Well, I've read alot on Poker books... SuperSystem 1, SS2, Mike Caro Poker Tells, some other Mike Caro books, The Little Green Book, How to win Championship Poker, and a bunch of other stuff. Sure they help, "play aggresive etc. etc." but... maybe these advices/strategy from the Pro's just doesn't work for someone who plays the cheapest SnG's he can find.

So I was hoping the good players on this forum would like to outline the way they play different pots with different starting hands, or how they read peoples hands, bluff, and what-nots. I think this would definetly help a lot of ameteur players like me!

Thanks a lot

Im moving this to General Discussion since it's not a Railbird thread

As far as your question, you cant ask a question like that and get an answer, as nearly everything is situational. I'll give a few points (hopefully which don't go to waste)

- Against bad players (typically what you'll find at micro limit stakes) bluff a lot less and value bet a lot more. Bad players are incapable of making laydowns

- Against weak tight bad players, you can still bluff and do so frequently.

- There is no one right way to play different starting hands, everything depends on: * Your hand *Your position *Action before you *Your table image *the rest of the tables' (your opponents) image and more. With that said I'll say this. Until your advanced enough to start getting tricky, play straight forward. Play your big hands (Big pairs AK AQ) straight forward and raise or reraise preflop (not so much with AQ). With middle pairs mix in limps and raises depending on your position, the action before you, the tables looseness or tightness etc. With all other hands that arent trash hands (suited connectors for example) try and see a CHEAP flop if you can (preferably with several opponents), and hope to hit big. Do not play offsuit Aces below AT, they are trouble hands

- Don't worry about advanced techniques until you get the basics down, then start adding to your arsonal

Varies from opponent to opponent obviously. As far as putting them on a range of hands, try to think what cards they could have based on the information theyve given you so far (remember, as Dan Harrington said, this is just a game of imperfect information). What did they do preflop...how about the flop, now what on the turn? If they had (this hand) how would they played it. How about (this other hand?)

Betting patterns are the biggest tell.

IF you're looking for an oreo cookie type tell, im not gunna say u wont find one, but i'll jus say Im not the person to ask about it bc i dont know

Spend some time reading threads (old and new) on this site. We've discussed literally thousands of specific situations in great detail.

That, or ask a specific question. Basically saying "Tell me everything you know about poker" isn't going to get you very far.

Another piece of advice is to take situations where you struggle to make a decision, or situations where you thought you made a poor discussion and post the hands in the strategy forum.

Some people never post hands, because you have to swallow your pride and open yourself up to looking like less of a player. I'm sure a lot of players will attest here (myself included) that if you swallow your pride and post misplayed hands, you'll be better off because of it.

Information. You cant read someone online, as your getting no physical information. You have to go off betting patterns, and sometimes, time taken to play. Watch what cards people show you, people love showing huge hands if they dont get called, like AA, KK, flopped nuts, and trips e.t.c, take info of how they played it, and watchf or the patterns.

Another tip - if your on pokerstars or a site with the hand history feature, and its just a pop-up window that will show you how the hand played out, it will show peoples mucked cards if it went to a showdown and they mucked. ALWAYS look at this if a player mucks - you get mroe information there than anywhere else.
