Default Quick Question: low limit

If you're in the big blind, the first guy in raises, and everyone else, including the small blind folds, what are your requirements to call that bet?

Sometimes, I think, call and try to out play him with your 9 10 offsuit. I guess for me, if I have a good read on the player and what they would raise with in early position, I make a decision based on that.

If you don't know anything though, what are your hand requirements to play?

You usually need a very good hand to play this. Your going to have to act first all the way to the river. I would fold marginal hands like straight draws.

Right, usually. So, you might play back against a maniac right?

If it is low limit you only need 2 cards, but make sure to use the 5 put out on the board to make your best hand.

You wouldn't be wrong to play back at the maniac in this situation ... and you wouldn't be wrong to play back at a maniac EVER - that is: if he's really a maniac, and you can SOMEHOW support it through your cards.

It's tough since I don't know how how the original raiser plays (tight, aggressive, loose, passive, etc.) but I would say you need a good hand to call the bet.

I would say any A9x, KTx, QJx and above. I would forget low and mid suited connectors here, as well as pocket pairs below 8.

Disclaimer: This could be completely wrong.

Im going to have to disagree with you all this time I'am personally impressed with the knowledge of some of you but in my case i would fold since I really dont like that hand and im most likley behind in the hand and hate playing catch up. Now if I had and 2 painted cards or pairs I would play him heads up. Just my opinion.

Fold. I dont see any reason for you to play back with less than par hands. He was in early position, so he's not stealing, and he raised. Even if he is a maniac, then he probably has something to raise from early position, and you are hardly "pot comitted" with your BB.

You might. Or you could say "Let's wait and let the Maniac trap himself". Sometimes you get too much into wanting to get that maniac to stop raising you pre-flop, and you play A3o, and you get beat bad when AAx flops and he has the A with the 6 kicker. There is a reason that you only play KJ later. It is because KQ is out there!

Playing someone heads up with less than stellar cards in a low limit cash game is ALWAYS a bad idea, you will win the minimum or lose the max, -ev situation.

From a pot odds perspective, you'd be getting 3.5 - 1 on your call.

There aren't many hands that are worse than the 78:22 split the pot is laying you.
