For starters, the cubs are the winningest team in baseball history (games). I can't really think of another reason why they would be considered one of america's favorite baseball teams. I've just been a fan since I was born. Mom's family is from Illinois. I'm from Alaska, we have to pro sports teams.

They have a huge following across the nation. It's mostly because of WGN. Back when I was growing up, they played ALL the Cubs games on WGN, for the entire country. People in the middle of nowhere, with no teams, got to see the Cubbies.

Good answers, thanx for the replies. I follow the braves for 1 reason, i saw them play the first game i ever saw, Maddux pitched a no hitter, and the Jones's and sheffield and whoever went mad, hitting 12 or something, i loved their style, great game. So now i follow the braves!

Wasn't sure of the WGN thing. When I was a kid our cable was out of Denver so I had no idea if WGN was cross country w/ the cubs games. Yeah, I definately saw 1/3-1/2 of their games every season (played too much baseball myself in the summertime to see all of em). I missed WGN when I was in florida, my cable network didn't carry it so I so no cubs games.
