Part of me agrees with the fact that the no smoking laws are a bit oppressive. I don't smoke or anything, but you can always ask them to put it out. Noboby likes the gov telling them what to do...
The other part thinks that smoking is a mind crutch that nonsmokers dont need, so why do you need the "calming" effect. Its not necessary, its just an addictions. Plus, your health sucks because of them...Why not take the opportunity to avoid them?
