Here's a scam that has been around for a long time, but is still plenty successful for the scums out there.
You get a mailing list of 1000 people and tell them you have an absolute lock on the Monday night game between Green Bay and Miami, no doubt it a winner and you are gonna give it to them FREE! You give 500 of those people Green Bay and 500 Miami. Let's say Miami covers the spread, you e-mail all the people you gave Miami to and tell them you have yet another mortal lock in the Thursday ESPN college game and again it's gonna be FREE! You do the same thing, you give 250 Virginia and 250 Texas. When Texas covers you now have 250 people who think you have the key to riches. Now Saturday rolls around and you e-mail the 250 people who had Texas and tell them you have found another mistake Vegas has made in the line of the Penn St vs Temple, but this time you need $20 to give them the winner. Even if 100 people send you a measly twenty bucks you are $2000 better off! Now you send 50 of those people PSU and 50 Temple. On Sunday morning you reel in the big money as 50 people have got three winners in a row from you and only invested twenty bucks! You tell those 50..........you get the idea. The price gets higher as the wins pile up, and one side has to win. Eventually you play yourself down to just a couple people and it fizzles out, but you will be thousands better off and you buy another mailing list of 1000 new people and start over again. Trust me, people do this all 16 weeks of the NFL season and take home buckets of money. You can't get plays sent via e-mail, you have to get them posted on a web-site that can't tell which side you are supposed to see.

Thats the beauty of the scam, nobody is really falling for anything, it's a victimless crime. Nobody pays for anything until thay had recieved two free winning plays already.
Now if you got one of the original 500 losing plays and you bet it then you have nobody to blame but yourself. The first batch of plays is meant to get the attintion of 500 people. I doubt you would run out and bet on the Pirates today just because an unsolicited e-mail told you to, right? Now when the second batch of 250/250 goes out I would imagine some people on the losing side will place a bet based on the first play being a winner, so these people are the only ones who have a gripe, maybe. After that your playing with the houses money and are gonna be up even if you get a loser on the third play, I mean who pays $20 for a play when they only bet $20 a game? These are more like $200 a game players minimum. The outcome of a scam like this is usually about 50 paying customers, thats all, but if you get them for $20 the first time and $50 the next and anything at all after that your in great shape because you have almost nothing invested. Who would fall for it? PLENTY.
