It's going to be single elimination. The only question is if each heads up match will be one tourney or a best of 3.

I like the best of 3 idea, myself, but again, for simplicity sake this first time around, I think we should go with just one match with the winner advancing.

Im in favor for best of three. I dont think time will be an issue, because all games will be played 1 after another, so worrying about two different times to play is avoided.

Here's what I'm thinking... I'll take input, of course, but I think this is a pretty good idea:

(Assuming 32 players)
The first two rounds (32-->16-->8) will be single matches. This is when we'll have the most people playing and the toughest time coordinating schedules and such. The third round (8 players, 4 matches) will be best of 3. The semifinals (4 players, 2 matches) will be a best of 5 series... and then the grand finale, the championship, will be a best of 7 series.

What do you think? Originally I was going to say 2/3 for the final 4 and 3/5 for the finals, but I think this is even better. By the time we get that far, hopefully the people left will be pretty serious about it and won't mind making time to play. And by doing it like this, the winner will really deserve to be there, having won 11 Heads up Tourneys!

I'd also like to have prizes for at least the final 2 players, but more likely the final 4. I'm hoping out TBD poker site will kick in a little bit of cash for us. Talks are in progress now.

This is going to be very cool!

Round one (32-16) - best of 3 (but a single match here would be "ok")
Round two (16-8) - best of 3
Round three (8-4) - best of 3
Round four (4-2) - best of 5
Final (2-1) - best of 5

This is what I "vote" for....I like the increasing of matches but personally, I think best of 7 is a little overkill. I think best of three determines the better player "pretty well" and best of 5 pretty much seals it.

Also, regarding how the matches will be played (if there are more than one per round).....

I would suggest that the minimum to win (2 for best of three, 3 for best of five, etc, etc) be played in one sitting, then if there needs to be a tiebreaker(s) there is the option of scheduling that for another time.

Still need to know how these will be set up. Are they just going to all be set up and the two players sign in whenever they want (password protected), or will you have to have it each match set up by support before you can play? Think this still needs to be given some thought once the site is chosen (or as part of the selection process).....

This is the part that is still in the works. I'm hoping people will be able to set up their own matches, and neither support nor I will need to take part in it at all.

Agreed...

BTW, one thing to confirm if PokerHost is still in the running is that this prize pool will be exempt from their "winnings prior to deposit" rules. Typically, you have to deposit and then unlock any money won prior to your deposit (freerolls, or any other promotional money). Their current rules only count $1/$2 and higher games toward unlocking bonuses/promo money. This might suck for some people if they win and don't want to play those limits to try to get their winnings.

From what I understand, if you deposit THEN win money all is ok and it is yours to do what you want with. So, it might be better for people to make $30 deposits in case they win???

Just an FYI in the dcision-making process.....

Yea I agree.

I can see how TP is trying to avoid complications, but the "best of three" matches should take place one-after-another. Since we're only dealing w/ T1500 (possibly less) and the blinds increase quickly, I don't think it'll be too much of a time constraint.

I like how everyone else is giving input - we have 20+ people signed up. C'mon guys...

Wrong wording. I meant one game played winner goes on, not best of three. It's not a huge deal to me though, I'd enjoy this tournament regardless. My freetime is abundant now as well, so no prob.

I really like TP's idea of increasing the number of games played between the opponents the deeper it gets in the tourney. We're not all TP, Kurn, ChumpFish, etc... Give an underdog a chance to score an upset in the first round or two. IMO I think it would add excitement to the tourney.
