It's just math.

If you are getting 20:1 pot odds, for example, it's pretty easy to make this call, knowing you are probably only a 2:1 dog. It would actually be stupid to NOT call and to give the guy those pot uncontested........ which I have seen people do, btw.

If he's the big blind and the small stack pushes in pre-flop the big blind is getting slightly better than even money isn't he? And if it's the SB that pushes in then the big stack is getting exactly even money unless you are to the point where an ante is involved, but I can see a case where as it would just be a few more chips for the BB to call and yet anyone else who limped in would fold, this would be needed to give the BB any kind of correct odds to call as any kind of dog, right?

I will agree that reguardless of the odds here the BB can't just give up the pot to a small all-in raise.

Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought you were talking about a situation where it's "only a couple chips more" for the BB to call. You haven't specifically stated any stack sizes yet, so it's impossible for me to tell you what his exact pot odds would be without that information.

Here's an example: Say the SB is 1000 and the BB is 2000. The short stack has 2200 chips and pushes in from the button. The SB folds. You're the BB, looking at a 5200 chip pot and it's going to cost you 200 ("a couple more") chips to call. You're getting 5200/200 = 26:1 pot odds to make this call. You simply can not fold, no matter what two cards you have. 72 vs AA isn't even close to a 26:1 dog.

So, you call with your 72o and the board is KQJ72. You win. I believe saying sorry here is more about condolences - as in, "I feel your pain, dude" - than it is an apology.

I see exactly where you are coming from. My point of view was we would both have 2200 in the pot, thus 1:1 odds. Calling the additional 200 in that spot would be a no brainer if you only had one card in your hand.

They can keep the condolences though, them and their fu*king rags.

That's the thing you have to remember about pot odds, once you put it in, it's no longer 'yours'.
