It was a great race. I think the new cars are going to provide for some great racing this season. While it seems the general consensus amongst the drivers is that they are tougher to drive they definitely seem to be far more forgiving. There were a LOT of bumps today that should have caused 'The Big One'.
I was extremely impressed by the entire pre-show. It seemed a really fitting way of celebrating 50 years. I'm still jealous as hell that you got to go though! ![]() The two tracks I'd like to visit soon (as in next couple/few years) are Daytona (duh!) and Kansas. |

FWIW, the only other place I've seen a race is Charlotte. While the Daytona 500 is the freaking Daytona 500 and I'm really glad I got to go, I like Charlotte better (both as a venue and as a racing style).
I'd like to see a race at one of the short tracks someday. I think that would be way cool. |

What the hell is Carl Edwards doing under the backstretch grandstands?
And...the flyover is always the best part of NASCAR races, baseball opening days, fourth of july games, etc.

That's the question of the day, believe me. We just happened to be walking from one area to another when he went flying by in a suped-up golf cart type thing (he was actually driving) - right through the big crowd of people, lead by a police motorcycle escort. Lynn's jaw dropped, so we quickly followed to where he parked. He was already gone by the time we got there, but we waited around and not 10 minutes later, he was back.
My best guess is that he made a quick appearance for the Office Depot people (his main sponsor) up in one of the backstretch luxury boxes or something. Who knows? Didn't see one other driver back there, and certainly didn't expect to. |
