That always sucks. I have had it happen twice and it is pure pain.
Doesn't sound like there was anything on there REALLY critical, but if there was there are services out there that can actually get the info off of the surface of the disk (for a pretty good price, but if you HAVE to have it it might work for you). Off to buy a stack of 50 high quality DVDs....
