i definatly play like a robot when i play cash games, and that in itself makes you a better player. having the discipline to not play the crappy cards means in the long run you will be a winning player, and the guy playing QT out of position in a raised pot will not be.

Every player plays for different reasons. Most players play to make money. If that is your goal it shouldn't bother you that you are playing ABC, you are achieving your goal. If it bothers you that you aren't improving your overall poker skills when grinding it out with the fish (even though you are winning) then maybe you play poker for other reasons as well.
Some tournament players play soley for the challenge. Paul Phillips, Barry Greenstein, Ben Afleck etcc... the money doesn't necesarrily matter to them, they are rich bastards (heh). They play for brain stimulation and the feeling of satisfaction that comes along with beating any game you competivley play with another person. Especially if the competition is the best in the world. When they first started they enjoyed improving their skills and eventually became World Class players (I know Ben isn't there yet). The money is a nice bonus but not their motivation. They want to improve their game and win tourneys, become the best players they possibly can. I personally play to make the most money possible. But I do enjoy reading about poker, thinking about poker, and improving my game as much as possible. I think you can find a happy medium between the two by setting bankroll goals and when you reach that goal move up limits. Eventually you will be playing with better players and therefore will improve your game even more. And hopefully you improve enough at each level to make money too. My two cents. ChiefBigtoke |

Aequitas58 on Party.
AeqPoker on Empire. Aequitas58 on Stars. I'm hidden from search, because I don't like people spying on me, but if you want to play at the same table (I usually play NL) let me know.

gordo_in_alaska2002 if you want to look me up sometime. I'm only playin on Party now, but considering depositing into stars for some up coming tourneys. |

Contrary to what people say, Stars is beatable. I tend to agree that the players are more sophisticated than the average PartyPoker player, but this isn't always bad. Good players will lay hands down, and in those special circumstances, you need players to fold because you can't always dominate. But, does this make up for the complete "fishiness" found on Party? Probably not.
As you've probably heard, Stars is also great for tournaments. The stats, structure, and support are fantastic. They allow players to make deals, unlike Party, which is huge for the seasoned tournament player. (Something I'm not!) Oh, and even though I'm "hidden," I can still accept invitations. That's how ChipFish was getting ahold of me a few weeks back.

Toke the dealer big! No kidding. It's funny ... I can't remember the last time I tipped a PartyPoker dealer.
Hah - whatever man - smoke it if you got it.

Haha, I toke the partypoker dealer all the time, umm yeah. Ok you got me.
I've played at stars before, I like it there. There are better players there. Less suck outs due to players willing to lay down a hand, which keeps the tilt-o-meter from rising. I've never played at Party until last November. I thought their interface sucked. I just got back into online poker and I chose Party because of all the stories I've read/heard about the huge schools of fish swimming around there. Party is expensive though, no micro limits to blow off steam. The tournaments kinda suck. Not enough starting chips, no deal making, etc.. They just added frequent player points to redeem for Tshirts and what not which is a step in the right direction. They never have freerolls either. Why am I playing there again? OH yeah, filet-o-fish, heh. But I think I'm going to deposit into Pokerstars next paycheck. Thanks for the info Aequitas. ChiefBigtoke |

Whatever about the weed, I'm right there w/ you.
To expand on PartyPoker, I read last week on RGP that players can use the points to enter "free" tournaments - but when I checked it out for myself, I couldn't find anything. The tournaments are weak, but what can you do.

A)Higher limits = Better poker...
B)Lower limits = ABC Poker.... Both can be profitable.... Although A can be much more tiring.
