Like I said, from a technical standpoint the ruling was fine
Not just from a "technical" standpoint. The ruling is correct, period. It can't be left up the dealer to interpret the meaning or the intent of the words. That just leads to angle-shooting. No matter what the context, the words "I call" have a single, inalterable meaning at the poker table.

Exactly.
This is why you don't talk about getting a raise while you are playing poker, for example. At the WSOP two years ago, some jackass kept SINGING some stupid jingle he made up about going all in. "All in, all in, all in!" over and over again.... He wouldn't stop and it was annoying as hell. I eventually suggested that this be a verbal declaration and he be forced to go all in the next time he sang. He thought this was preposterous, but after the floor was called.... the singing stopped. |
