Default November Thread: Goals, Winrates, Updates

My goals for November:

1. Play > 10,000 hands of NL cash game - 3/6 and up.
2. Qualify for the IRON level Iron Man Freeroll at Full Tilt again.
3. Make at least 4 Videos that you guys hopefully enjoy.
4. Win $10,000.

(I still don't really like monetary goals, but I guess you've got to shoot for something).

Well october was officially "take a shot month"
I didnt really grind at all, and just would sit 25/50NL and 100/200 Limit whenever the games looked half good. Surprisingly I won $ doing that, but it was WAY too swingy and I'm glad its out of my system.

This month I really want to 10 table 3/6 alot, and mix some maybe 6-8 tabling 5/10 in there. I wouldnt mind playing Some 10/20NL or some 30/60 Limit but I really just feel like grinding again this month and getting Lots of hands in ( 2k hands a day is pretty easy when 10 tabling).
Hopefully at 3/6 i can run at 4ptbb/100 or more, and at 5/10 I'd be happy with 3.5ptbb/100.

I want to continue to play good thinking poker, and not play on tilt. Maybe I could actually get some reading in this month too. The $ aspect should take care of itself.

In mid-late-october i had to basically restart from scratch. It was a painful step - but I think its going to be one i am glad i made. Anyway, here are my goals for November (keeping in mind my 'start-over' roll was $300 - basically what i started with oh-so-long ago. My roll has grown a bit thorugh October).

1.) Play 5k hands of $50 NL short seated. That 5k hand goal might be a bit high since i will be missing some poker time over Thanksgiving and a couple of other weekends this month.

(btw - i know i am not ideally funded for this level. I dont need feedback on that. If i go broke, i plan on reloading next year)

2.) Get comfortable with 3 tabling $50 NL games. I am comfortable 2 tabling now and I am pretty sure i am ready for this step.

3.) Increase my bankroll. I dont want to set any monetary-specific goal here - i dont want to chase money. I just want to see an increase. Hmmm, i guess its silly to post this though since that is kinda obvious. Okay, i will pick a number - i am going to set my sights relatively low. How about...... $800 (i am at appx $540 right now).

4.) Work a bit more getting comfortable/confident with re-raising preflop with hands other than AA, KK and QQ. And knowing when i should and shouldn't do that.

5.) Get PAHUD running optimally and utilzing that data. I started using PT to serioulsy study my game in October and I think it has helped a lot. I have PAHUD downloaded - i just have to get it set up right.

I feel like I made a break-through over the past couple of weeks in understanding what tilt means to me. For me it is a far subtler tweaking of my postflop thought process than I previously appreciated. Just playing 6-max was enough to turn a moderately successful full ring micro NL player into a 6-max micro NL post-flop action junkie. But I think I am getting a handle on it. So my goals are:

1). 7.5K hands of tilt-free $25NL 6-max
2). Take some shots at $50NL 6-max
3). Build my bankroll so that I am comfortable playing $50NL exclusively by the end of the month (30 buyins for me)
4). Be happy with the decisions I make, independent of the results.

poker is fun when your learning. Then when u play to win money, and only for that reason its less fun. The league is fun, but thats a donkament, so donkaments are fun, as are crazy cash games, as is huge tourneys, but griding = no fun

I disagree with this, what is more rewarding then starting with say $500 and grinding your way up the levels until your are looking at 4k. I plan on going to AC and grinding at 2/4 limit all day.

rounders quote "be careful though or your whole life will become a fucking grind"

grinding is exactly what I plan on doing.

I think poker is all fun Grinding can get boring but I still have fun with it because I'll play a lot of tables and listen to music. You can also "Grind" while playing "donk"aments , which will be fun.

u cant grind playing donkaments. Skill = much less of a factor. Donkaments are for fun.

And yeah, u can play 2/4 all day and grind. After 1 week you will be so bored youll play BJ for a bit to mix it up. And brian, you never grind, youll get to $4k and hit the $100/$200

I meant you can play tables, which you consider "grinding" and play tournaments at the same time.

Do you think the 4k / 8k cash game is a grind for Phil Ivey and he gets bored at it ?

I like how the people that are commenting on the grind are just recreational players at best. Playing poker as my only job isn't exactly the most thrilling adventure and can become quite tedious at times.

As for goals,

while this is very very true boobie that dosent take away from the fact that I still think being able to grind out the bankroll is very important. I plan on protecting this bankroll I dont want repeats from past mistakes.

Let's try this again.

1. Get roll to 6k
2. Cash in tourneys
3. Play in a FTOPS series or 2
4. Qualify for Bahamas
5. Read HoH1

My apologies for making a post in this thread that is on topic and not part of the eejitSWA[3x] debate (you guy are allowed to make new threads here instead of cluttering up unrelated ones, you know), but I have an update already:

I played 500 hands earlier today and lost 5 buy ins, so my #4 goal just got a little but more ambitious. By the end of it, I don't think I was playing well, and I walked away. Early on though and accounting for pretty much all the losses, it was just SICK. No matter what I flopped, they would chase their draw and get there. And if I flopped a big hand and a big draw (like my AA overpair with a nut flush draw to go with it), his flopped two pair (QJ) would hold up to scoop a $2100 pot. It was a bad session, to say the least.

Check out the attached graph and note the stackings. Keep in mind, had I won any of those, those drops would have been lines going UP at least twice as much as they went down. It just wasn't meant to be today.

Today would have been a good day to have a pinball machine in the house. IT would have been easier to walk away.
