Default What is it with some people's fetish to show their bluff?

I was playing a SNG on Stars and two jackasses would show their hands EVERY SINGLE TIME that they bluffed. What do they want, a medal? We all do it all the time. So what! You took down 45 chips in blinds. Congrats. Don't spend them all in one place. That also touches on another thing. What in the world would make you want to take the blinds in the FIRST ROUND. If you've got a hand raise, but why take the chance with 34 if your getting 20 chips. Needless to say, these guys were out before the third round of blinds. I just don't get some people. Sorry about the rant.

Default only time

Only time I ever show my hand is if i think guy made a awsome lay down and want him to know he did. This only happens about 5%-10% i will ever show any other time I take my chips and smile (only online though). Only time I raise in the blinds to just grab them is if i have been playing supper tight like 1st 3-4 hands and i got a hand I only want one or maybe 2 callers like JJ I really only want 1 caller with that hand but thats just me!

Only reason I see to show a hand is to create an image. If I want to advertise loose, I will show my bluff. If I want to advertise tight, I will show the nuts. Its amazing how much that changes peoples perception of you.

They are trying to create a maniac table image for themselves. The next time they make a big move at the pot, they'll have the goods but want people to think they are bluffing again. The problem with this strategy is unless they are playing a bunch of idiots, their opponents should realize why they showed the bluff and shouldn't fall for the "trap."

As for showing when a guy makes an awesome laydown, that's backwards.... let him think he folded the best hand. Don't build his confidence!!!

Default like i said

like I said I do it very very seldom usually in a friendly game or casual game at very low stakes would never do it in a high money game or even middle game would do it in a casual quarter game or something where we are all just chilling. Dont think i would do it in any game 2/4 or above.

Playing monster stakes today, .5/.10, and when I folded my small blind to a raise, my opponent was overjoyed to show me his 23s.!? How many of you simply use the auto muck feature on most sites?

No, the funniest is when you're playing 2/4 limit and somebody calls down your set of Queens with ACe high, 4 kicker, offsuit, and then shows it like they were making a great play.

Mostly automuck. 95% of the time. Agree with defendant, I'll show to create or maintain an image.

I never show. I figure some people are going to be curious and pay me off sometimes.. and others are going to eventually assume I have nothing and pay me off..

I never show, but thats just me; however, I can see your point about creating an image. These guys though.....they were showing about every third hand as they were in almost every hand. I can pretty much guarantee that they were not creating a table image. They were just being big jackasses that probably have never actually won a sit n go.

Yeah, in home games I show occasionally to preserve an image or create one. But in online games I generally just have automuck on. Its too much of a hastle to click show or muck every hand after the hand is over. I also dont really think that people put that much effort into reading you online, or atleast not on the limits i play on

In home games, I'll show sometimes because I'm usually playing w/friends and such.

Online - never, ever, ever.

i will show when i think that it can put someone on tilt, either online or in a home game. this isnt very often, and most of the time i just use the auto-muck.

i bluff and show much more often live than i do online. i think the psychological effects of it live are much worse, and thus the opponent tilt factor goes up significantly.

The thing is i occasionally show a hand or 2. Strong ones. Reasoning behind this is for respect on steal attempts. Is this such a bad strategy?

Exactly.

For me, there's never any reason to show, ever. I'm playing so few hands, any decent opponets should figure out that I'm tight, and I don't see any reason to have to broadcast this again.

LOL. Im not sure why you want to show bluffs on blind steal. People will just defend more. Showing strong hands on blind steals will make ppl fold more often.

I love it when guys show their bluffs. If it's just once in a while, you know that he's building table image. If it's all the time, you know he's just stupid. I've taken LOTS of money off of guys who are just trying to buy pots or bluff.

Default Never!

I never show. I keep people guessing. They call me down to see a few times, I beat the hell out of them by being tight, and never showing, and then I losen up a little and bluff at scary flops. I.E. I played KQ and the flop is Axx with 1 or 2 people left in. So I throw a bet out there. If it is called or raised I can either try another bluff or walk away. Depends on the opponent.

Sometimes I will say what I have if they ask, but they never think I am telling the truth anyways. One time I always show is when having a friendly game of lets say 25/NL with all the other Bloggers I know on Empire/Party. Then you are raising 27o, bluffing your ass off, and showing to get hoots and hollars! It is a blast!
