SNG tourneys, Stars or Party?
Which setup favors your style of play Party with 800 chips and 10 players or Stars with 1500 chips and 9 players?
My strategy is to play super, super-tight in these games till the 3rd or 4th level at least so the setup at Stars really makes it easier for me to get in the money in theses games. I would guess the hyper-agressive types would prefer the setup at Party better. Any thoughts on this or any difference in strategy for either? |

Very curious
I’m eager to hear what people experienced on both sites have to say. I’m constantly hearing about PS, that its interface/customer service/fill in the blank is superior to Party in every way. But I am yet to actually play there because …
1) I understand that the players are considerably better than at Party 2) They have no deposit bonus, which seems unreasonably stingy So for now, I’d rather make more money on a ‘lesser’ site. Thoughts? |

IMO, Party Poker increases the blinds way too quickly, every 10 hands. I have constantly gone from chip leader to last place in a matter of 3 or 4 hands without a large pot even occuring. I have never played on Poker Stars but I assume the blinds there increase by time, as opposed to hands. I would definately prefer any site that increases by time, like UB, the best site I've ever played.

I don't know about the players at Stars being that much better at the lower levels, I think the larger buy-in games may be tougher, 50 or 100 buy in games, but as far as the 10-30 buy ins I don't see that much of a difference. Stars does have a 20% bonus from time to time and the FPP points you get for playing raked hands AND tourneys can be used for satelittes to the much larger games. I like it at Stars, though I do play at both Stars and Party.

At Party, if I'm not mistaken, they have re-loads of 15% every 2 months. Also, this has only happened to me once, but I have heard it around, that when you empty your account out and then your account becomes inactive for 2 months (no real or play money play), they will deposit cash in your account and give you like 3-5 days to clear a raked hand minimum, which in my case was like 125 hands a couple months back. I turned their $20 into $70 within 75 hands and had to wait 50 hands to cash it out, before throwing it in UB and getting the 50% re-load they have once and a while. Anyone else know of this? My account has been inactive for almost 2 months again so perhaps I will find out soon if the 2 month thingy is true.

Tone,
I really like Stars. You have already acknowledged the positives so I'll cut right to the chase as far as the players. They are, in my opinion, better. But, that doesn't away mean the games are better. For instance, I do much better at NL ring games at Stars than I do at Party. On the other hand, the Party SnGs are softer. That's just how I see it. Plus, I'd rather have 10 instead of 9 players, because, on average, the players are worse and the payouts are a little higher. I DO like the fact that you can accumulate FPP points on Stars, which can be used for free merchandise or satellite entries. You should at least download the software so that when a deposit bonus becomes available, you will be notified via email.

IIRC, I believe it's every 10 minutes.
The other good thing is that the $5 SnG's have a $.50 vig, as opposed to Party's $1.

Two things here, I can't understand why anyone would play the 5+1 sng at Party simply for that reason, and why doesn't Party drop .50 of that rake? |

The sitngo's on party are garbage, anytime the blinds raise so fast that if you play a hand that you might as well go all-in because of the rapidly increased blinds it takes all skill out of it. I prefer UB's structure the best for what thats worth. And there is no way I'm paying $1 to the house in a $5 sitngo.

Holy Raining Cows BatMan!
We agree on something! This could be the start of a beuatiful relationship. *Wipes Tear From Eye* Also, Party Poker has excellent Stud And Omaha SNGs. (Hi-low especially). I think that people use this area to learn the game rather than watch and read about it first. I can just picture the guy.... "Gee Om-a-hay Poker eh? I should try this.... What the fuck???? Why the hell are there 4 cards down here? Oh look, I was dealt Four of a kind Twos.... I'm all-in! " |

Maybe you've have shitty luck with Party's SnG's. For me, they are my bread and butter. (ESPECIALLY Friday or Saturday nights, when Party hits like ... 60,000 players.)

I guess people have a problem starting with 800 T-chips? I don't mind it since everyone starts w/ the same amount. In comparison to 'Stars, I feel like more chips equate to a longer tournament. Who the hell wants to be sitting at a one table SnG for an hour or more? For me, it cuts down on my win/hr ratio.

If party would have fpps
I think that if party would have fpps, I wouldn't come out of the S&Gs. Increasing the chips from 800 to 1000 would even even better.

My 2 cents
More chance to play poker..... Less chance to have to go all-in.
Example... 13th hand of a party poker SNG ChipCount 770(you played no hands and folded blinds) You are dealt Ac-As You raise to 200. (5 times the current bb) Of course 2 callers Flop comes Ad-9-d-2d Checked to you.... you bet 220... Of course 2 callers (stupid people calling when you don't want them to on Party!) Turn Ad-9d-2d-7d first caller bets 250. do you call? I curse my luck and fold.... Can't be helped, cards were bad that hand. Let's check and see where we are at now.... Oh crap Down to 350 in chips. Crap.... I may get lucky and see a cheap flop or 2, but I am basically pot-committed to anything now.... The Moral of this story is.... With 1500 chips to start(down to T1050 now after this example hand), there is more of a chance to play good poker. |

James, you're absolutely right. I play at my girlfriend's house against her brother and his buddies, they are increasing blinds every 15 minutes. By about the 1 hour mark you have to go all-in just to see a flop. Absolutely retarded structure and next time I play I'll make sure they know it.

Just so everyone is clear....
I am James... I had to point this out because I live with my fiance, and it is very very very very very rare that I ever hear the words....... "James, you're absolutely right." Thanks Geoff, I needed that |
