Football (Baseball?) Trivia
Inspired by the one-game plaoff last night (That's your only clue)

well i googled it now and i see who it was but that wasnt what i was thinking. so there was actually two guys to start over him then. im not gonna say so people can guess to figure it out.
i was right on the money on the timeframe it happened just the wrong guy. the guy that transferred to texas a&m started over clausen for one game, not peyton. Last edited by redbank09; 10-02-07 at 05:21 PM. |

If what you're thinking of happened after Manning's Freshman year, then I asked the question wrong. The person I'm thinking of started at QB in Manning's Freshman year. If I'm wrong, the people at WEEI in Boston were lying when they interviewed this guy back in June. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but if I'm right, you're ignoring the clue. I thought of the guy while watching the baseball game last night (during the MNF commercials).

So much for doubting myself. Clausen was at UT after Manning.

the guy your thinking of was the back up to another guy. peyton was third string. mr baseball player came in and played for three games after the 1st string guy got hurt opening day, then peyton took over in the 4th game of the season.

Its just one of those interesting things that links 2 professional athletes in different sports.
I used to have another one that linked two big names in different sports that played in the 70's and 80's, but most people on this board might not recognize the names.

We have it easier up here. We don't have to despise him, we just point out that our guy has 3x the rings.

Oh yeah, the answer
If anybody cares, the last guy to beat out Peyton Manning for a starting QB job was Rockies 1B Todd Helton.

OK, I'll take a wild guess: Todd Helton. What do I win?
