The New England Sports Landscape has Changed
The Red Sox are officially no longer the area's number one team.
Take 5 out of 6 from the Yankees and the next Monday have NOBODY talk about them on Sports radio??? Patriots are #1. 2 Words: Randy Moss. The other 31 NFL teams are playing for 2nd place.

The Pats have made some NICE moves these past few days - I'll give them that much.
The only problem is, if they do anything short of winning the SuperBowl, they won't have met thier expectations. Ouch. |

True enough, but thats OK. The Pats are to football now what the Yankees have been to baseball. There are two options: Championship or failure.

IMO, Randy Moss is way overrated. And, until he proves otherwise, is a cancer. But, the Pats certainly got him at a great price. I just don't think he's anywhere near the player he used to be.

Meh. Guy had over 100 catches with Daunte Culpepper (a C+ QB at best) throwing to him.
But, overrated or not, he's clearly the best WR Brady's ever had to throw to. And if his clubhouse persona doesn't worry Belichick, it doesn't worry me.

LOL. What's wrong with comparing the Pats to the most successful professional sports franchise of the 20th century. Maybe its because I didn't grow up here, but I think its ridiculous that most Red Sox fans seem to care more about the Yankees losing than they do about the Red Sox winning. Not to get off on a rant here, but in '04 I remember more than one caller to WEEI saying saying he hated the Nomar trade. The complaint went something like this> "What are the Sox trying to do? BUY a championahip? If that's what it takes, I'd rather not win than win like the Yankees!" What a bunch of morons. The idea is to win, not to fulfill some sick New England tribal angst. Thats why I like the Moss deal. If he helps the Pats win, who cares what else he does? These aren't girl scouts, they're professional football players. Is it win at any cost? Short of cheating, damn well should be.

I love the Moss deal, are you kidding me?
On an equally disturbing note, our boy Brady was seen walking around Ny with a fucking Skanks hat on????? |

Not the first time Brady's been seen wearing that hat. I would think he grew up an A's or Giants fan, but who cares, as long as he's a New Englander between Sept. and Feb.
And yes, I know most Sox fans care more about winning, but the obsession with those guys in pinstripes feeds New Yorkers' view that Boston has an inferiority complex vis-a-vis NY. Sports talk radio represents a faction, albeit a minority, that colors the rest of the country's perception of our area. And while I do tend to cheer for the team playing the Yankees, its usually because the Yankees are the ones between the Sox and the pennant. On the other hand, I can easily see a situation in September '07 where I might be cheering for the Yankees to beat the Blue Jays. And I also understand the "I cheer for 2 teams" mentality. I have that in College Hockey. I support BU and whoever is playing BC. Thus my current to the Michigan State Spartans.

He used to wear the Yankees hat in the lockerroom and was told by some players not to. It is no secret that he is a Yankees fan.

Unfortunately, no. I'm flying into Logan on Thursday morning and the conference starts a little after noon. That night I'm sure I'll be going out with some of the colleagues I know will be up there. Friday is seminars all day then the Red Sox game at night. Conference wraps up Saturday morning and I fly back to Jax Saturday mid-afternoon. Wish I could but I'll basically have zero free time on this trip. Thanks for the offer though.
