Straddle Bet question...
It's done/declared before the cards are dealt, correct? Never used it but thinking of introducing to the home game.

only if its a cash game and ONLY if all players agree to it before the hand/s are dealt.

The UTG player must declare "straddle" before the 2nd card is dealt to him and obviously he can not look at the first one. Some places will be more lientent than others and allowed it up until the all cards are done being dealt, others will be more strict and make it declared before any cards are dealt.
Edit: And yea, this is only in a cash game obviously

its where The SB posts the SB say $5, the BB posts $10, the the UTG can straddle for $20, making him last to act preflop and increasing the blinds. People can re-strabble so UTG+1 can go to $40, but then it gets crazy!

eejit explained the basics. It's basically a third blind equal to double the big blind (some places allow up to 3 times the big blind) put in by the player UTG. It acts as a bet, however the straddler gets an option to check or raise once it's back around to him.
The next player can restraddle for double the straddle, it can in theory go all the way up until the button, who is not allowed to straddle, but the most I've seen is a straddle and 4 restraddles

This part isn't true. If the house allows it, it's allowed. If I straddle and you don't like it, you can't object and make me not straddle.

Yup -- what he said...
The fun straddles were allowed at the Rio "Mississippi Straddles". TP seemed to love those. It's when you straddle from the button -- but the cool catch is that the SB acts first preflop now as well, followed by the BB then UTG. So in essence you are straddling and receiving position for the entire hand

Best straddle ever. I don't straddle from UTG (unless I'm really bored or something), but I will straddle from the button 100% of the time if it's allowed. That's the biggest +EV play I've seen in Hold'Em.
