cost me $1000
My son has been home for the easter and telling me that he loves poker and has been playing with his friends at Uni. I told him not to get into it to deep and consantrate on his studies and band.
He told his mum that he will be joining online and she told me that she is worried that he may get into it to deep. So I came up with a brilliant idea I would let him play online on PS for a week using my account and I would see how he was doing, well needless to say he came to me an hour ago and said "thats it I am finished with poker, its fixed .Ohh and dad I owe you $1000" , yes thats right for him to lose the poker bug cost me a thousand. I am upset with losing 1000 but to be honest I am happy he has lost the urge to play poker online. Hope I did the right thing, god knows what I would have done if he would of won, It was funny finishing work and seeing him and his friend around my pc being playing allnite. Thought I would share this.

You could have basically taught him the same lesson but with a smaller bankroll. Maybe $500 max. Big chance you were taking there, if he'd have won, he'd be wanting to become pro, like Shabi.
Glad to hear he's given up on online poker. As for your bankroll, you'll make it up in no time, right? |

NO.
Probably on consideration a really stupid thing to do and wether it really has learned him anything only time will tell, but I really didnt want him getting involved playing online. I love playing online and have my own plans in place to continue but really after being part of this forum I know about the ups and downs of online poker only a very small amount of players can boast making a decent profit and to make a living you have to be commited and have a very sensible steady head. I felt that giving him an opatunaty to play in most games he wanted with knowing he could play as good or as bad as he says he plays would convince him that he cant sit infront of a pc and make a living out of poker, it just is not that easy. looking at the game history of the hands he played he really did make some poor decisions he played in sit n gos ranging from $10 to a couple of $100 and mostly played in the 50-$1 nl tbls and a very strange thing to do playing in 50-$1 pl Omaha. Ohh and he played in my silverstar game and didnt do to good in that also,I feel that losing $1000 has really hit home with him and he knows now that its bloody hard to make money but very easy to lose.
