Question: If you are taking poker so seriously, and are playing so well, and "have zero reason to think this one would end down," why are you taknig backers? Why not back yourself and keep all of the profits?
Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of playing backed - but mostly for short term "taking a shot" type things. If you can afford it and if you don't think there is any chance you will lose, why take backing? |

I kinda enjoy staking and taking stakes to be honest. I dont know its just fun to win people money, for people to have enough faith in your play to invest that kind of money in you. But im not just taking stakes im also giving them out, this month alone I staked out about $500 and im giving a couple backers free staking while im in Vegas as a kind of thank you for investing in me. Im working on building a reputation so I can take those shots you talk about, I want to start playing sunday millions tourneys and stuff. I dont mind taking 1/2 the profits if im putting zero risk at my own bankroll, usually all my winning go into other people though. plus I kinda think being staked has improved my game, its just something about wanting to try harder when people have something riding one me. Not to mention when im at a final table I send out a mass PM to everyone and they all come and cheer me on at the table, thats very cool.

Staking seems like a good idea in that it makes poker more social. And the biggest problem with being a full time grinder is the anti-social requirement of poker. Good for you to be able to connect with so many people in such a single player game, Raistlin.

So does this mean we can't use "swa" as a verb or adjective anymore?
Glad to see you are improving and enjoying yourself.

If poker and tossing suitcases doesn't work out, maybe you should consider comedy.

TP has a point here, but my thinking is that if I am playing properly rolled, there is about 80% of my bankroll that is dormant and just sitting there waiting on a rainy day. I play fairly low volume, so if I can stake out my whole bankroll by investing in +EV players that play higher volume than I do. If I only play off of stakes from other players at 40-50% and I stake out my whole bankroll in +EV players that play higher volume than I do, then I am generally better off than just investing in myself.
If I can invest all my money in players that are lower risk than I am or with higher overall EV, then my money is better off in their hands than playing on my own money. If I can play on other's money then that still keeps me in action even if it is at 40-50% profit. |
