No.

I think it would be funny if an online sports book had a line on this bill getting passed though.

Well, they are right - the laws are archaic. My argument is that Opinions (the Judge's written decision after deciding a case) are handed down daily from multiple jurisdictions dealing with the breadth and scope of the Wire Act, and how it applies to modern circumstances and situations. So, while the legislators say that the law is archaic, they fail to mention that this OLD law is easily applied to everday, modern cases. It's a red herring.

While laws can "read" scary, you have to consider how they're going to enforce those laws. Consider the "cigarette" ban many states are enacting, where you're not allowed to smoke indoors at public places. This law is quite easy to enforce because it's *easy* to fine a bar allowing smokers. Once you start fining bars and clubs, they enforce the rules.

It's important to consider how a law can be enforced before considering its ramifications. If enforcing a law is impractical there's a solid chance it just won't pass. I wonder how they are going to enforce an "internet gambling" law? They certainly can fine credit card companies if they allow a deposit to an "internet gambling" website. (WOW - that's alot of records to go though! Do we need to increase taxes to pay for the new government entity we need to form to handle this work?)

The problem - for the government - is dealing w/ the three-way transactions. (Ie: Bank Account > Paypal / Neteller > Website). Would sites such as PayPal / Neteller / etc. full under the gambit of "gambling websites?" Not at all! If the government disallowed the transfer from my bank account to my Neteller account, I have an EASY 1st Amendment argument that the new law is unconstitutional because it's over-encompassing.

Give me a break. I have a right to be in public places without breathing your smoke. If you think you're losing a basic right by not begin able to subject everybody else to that, it might be time to do some more thinking.

I smoke deal with it.
Fundamental Laws were not made to protect an individual group but to PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF EVERYONE.
Which means no law to hurt smokers and no law to help them either.
Fat people don't need a law to protect them from buying 2 tickets at the airport they need to buy the extra seat and shut up.
Skinny ppl don't need a law to protect them from sitting next to the fat stinky guy on the plane. It's just crap luck Next time I'll get him.

If my smoke bothers you ask me to put it out and I will but the USA does not need a law to enforce it.
There are too many laws on the book.

Yeah and your good at posting 3000 wise ass post remarks instead of anything resembling conversation. Anyone can get to 3000 posts that way.

Any of you in the military or been to Iraq or are you just armchair politicians watching scooby doo with a bag of frito-lays playing online poker. Asking mommy to do your laundry.

Again this is a place to have discussion and comment on posts if you don't like mine give it a negative or post a counter reply but stupid pshabi posts that have no meaning are just there so he can add to his dummy post total.
Can't wait to see the next one. Have another cheeto bro... Have another cheeto.

More logic? What does serving in the military have to do with your "right" to smoke in enclosed public places? Furthermore, what does it have to do with political knowledge?

Hate to tell you, but some people enlist in the military based on the sole reason that they are either too dumb or too lazy or some combination of the two, to do anything productive in the "real" world.

I'm not saying this is true for everyone, obviously, but being in the military doesn't exactly require above average intelligence.

Finally, the anti-smoking laws wouldn't have passed if they weren't favored by the majority. That's how gubment works.

Dude, you really want to get pissed? Folks living in DC don't have representation in Congress! And don't forget our brothers down in Guam and Puerto Rico, they are out fighting and dying for our rights and they can't even vote!

Get pissed. And then hold your gun tightly and find out if you are man enough to do anything about it.

But don’t touch my cheetos.

Finally, Stern sucks. Really, he does. You may say it is a matter of taste and all that, but that is wrong. It is beyond taste at this point. He went to sirus and he sucks. It weakens your other arguments to bring Stern into it.

Washington State is a HUGE DEMOCRAT STATE

In the previous election the our female gov. won by hundreds of thousands of votes. Then in her reelection she proposed the smoking ban. RESULT she LOSES THE ELECTION pulls a george bush in a recount and wins.

the point that she won does not matter it's the fact that HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PPL CHANGED THEIR VOTE not just smokers NON SMOKERS who know that Washington has no state tax and the reduced # of cig's sold because of the ban will decrease tax revenue 10 fold and lead to higher taxes elsewhere.

And for you whiners about second hand smoke if your sitting in a bar 8 hours a day worried about the second hand smoke odds are the whiskey and beer will destroy you LIVER LONG LONG LONG LONG before the smoke will ruin your soprano voice. Have a nice day.

P.S. I smoke deal with it......

Of course! That's it! By banning cigs in public places people will buy less smokes! Damn, why didn't anyone else think of this. The gov't should ban cocaine, speed, LSD, and pot too! Just think, if it's banned, no one will buy it...

I don't know ONE SINGLE PERSON that cut back on smoking when we enacted a public smoking ban here in London. That has to be the single-most absurd thing I've read in this thread (and that's saying a lot!)

Part of me agrees with the fact that the no smoking laws are a bit oppressive. I don't smoke or anything, but you can always ask them to put it out. Noboby likes the gov telling them what to do...

The other part thinks that smoking is a mind crutch that nonsmokers dont need, so why do you need the "calming" effect. Its not necessary, its just an addictions. Plus, your health sucks because of them...Why not take the opportunity to avoid them?

That's the worst reply I've ever heard coming from a person who calls their smokes FAGS

(That was my tribute to pshabi reply)

Really though If I can't smoke at work it cuts down on the cig's I buy
If i can't smoke in the poker room or in the bar that REALLY cuts down on the cigs I buy NOW UNDERSTAND THIS. I'm saving dough thats not a bad thing. If I smoke one less smoke a day because of the ban then it's cutting down on the amount I smoke so your argument holds no water.

We are getting off track here I'm not arguing anything with you ppl I wanna quit smoking I don't like when I'm NOT SMOKING and someone's blowing it in my face

What I am saying is the GOVERNMENT HAS NO RIGHT to tell me what to do other than putting a gun in a few of your mouths and pulling the trigger ( another tribute to pshabi)

You know what I'm the one out there trying to stick up for rights the one who does not want to see ONLINE POKER GET BANNED.
So you know what I hope they do ban it and hope a ton of you donkeys have a 6 hour drive just to get to a card room.

Your all losers ( another tribute to pshabi)
Actually I'm happy this is the first post in a while that ppl are expressing their feelings and talking about stuff instead of the usual WHAAAAA my aces got cracked posts.

Zybomb (Thousands of DYNAMITE posts concerning the game of poker and other topics)

TalkingPoker (Thousands of good posts concerning everything from an dynamic point of view)

Pshabi (uhhh uhhhh your momma so fat....... uhh what was the topic again)

Your stupid, deal with that, on a daily basis, for the rest of your life.

Give me some #s that show any smoking ban in public places has decreased cigarette sales significantly. If anything, it hurts alcohol sales in Florida, because half the bar is outside smoking!

I don't think anybody here is sitting in a bar 8 hours a day (except Geoff). A bar isn't the only place people smoke either.

If you had a device that you carried around, like a proton pack from Ghostbusters, and it emited a poisonous gas, do you think you'd be allowed to carry it around in public? The smoke causes health problems. You should have no right to smoke in the presence of others who choose not to be infected by it.

I smoked a cigarette yesterday.

Since this thread is worthless anyway, has anyone else heard about the promotion sinfulpoker is doing? They are running $0.69 daily satellites to qualify for a tournament in which the winner gets a vacation in Puerto Rico, with a hooker. A zinger requirement is that you must have a picture taken with the hooker while wearing the website's gear.

And I am pretty sure you can smoke anywhere on the island.
