Do you report foreign languages?
I just recently found out that English was the only allowed language for PokerStars. So the other day I found myself in a tourney with two players speaking french. I politely asked them to stop, in which they basically blew me off, IN ENGLISH! So I decided I'd report these two, since I didn't know if they were cheating in the chat or anything. I later get an email telling me that the players chat privelages have been banned. I kinda feel like an asshole now, but at the same time I feel I did the right thing. Is this something you guys do?

If people are breaking the rules and you ask them to stop and they don't, there is absolutely nothing wrong with reporting them. Nothing at all.
You say you feel like an asshole. I'd feel vindicated! |

Players such as yourself have done this to me before, without realizing PS would suspend my chat privileges. My confused reaction is when they find out that PS has given me a chat ban and they truly feel as bad as you feel now...but I ask myself, what did they/you think PS was going to do to them once you submitted the report? |

And my question to you is: Why didn't you stap talking in French at the table when someone asked you to and you KNEW it was against the rules???

I usually keep quiet if a) if its a language I at least somewhat understand or b) its chat between a player and a railbird.

I did, but the other French player didn't. So basically they sent the report for the one player, but when PS views the chat log...they suspend both players who spoke a language other than English.
Also, the very first time I lost chat because of the language, I didn't know it was a rule breaker. After a few months, even though I knew it was to either help a French player out with a question or I sometimes don't want to be rude and if a fellow Francophone sends me greetings in French...I too give a quick reply in French. Not many American players like that, most of the reasoning behind the reports. Last edited by bunny; 11-29-07 at 09:28 PM. |

Also, i guess it's important to note that it was between a player and a railbird, not two players.

I report. If people don't know the rules of the game/site they are playing, then tough crap on them.
It doesn't say, don't use languages other than english UNLESS it is unrelated to the game. It says don't period. Yeah, some people are going whine. No amount of "doing nothing" will get them to stop. Tattle like a 4 year old damn it!

I agree with what you did. Definitely don't feel like an ass. Whether they read the rules of the site before playing, they agree to them by playing.

If you asked them nicely and they still continued, you were in the right to report them VeryMoonFunk. Although, you should be aware...most of them don't know they are breaking any rules due to the added language options.
Albeit, that wasn't my case... (I have since then learned my lesson) |
