BCS mess
Texas is getting the shaft.... how do you get past the fact that Texas beat OU heads-up on a neutral field? The BCS is dumb. Football in general is putting me on tilt this year.

I just want Missouri and Florida to win. That way we can have a whole bunch of cool one-loss teams to argue about.

Florida is a NINE AND A HALF point favorite . Wow I dunno if an unbeaten #1 team has ever been such a dog in history.
As far as the Texas Oklahoma thing, college football has always had favoritism towards teams that lose early than teams that lose late. Yes Texas could be undefeated if that last second pass to Crabtree (who made a sick catch btw) didn't come thru and yes they beat Oklahoma.... but Oklahoma not only beat Texas Tech, they annihilated them, then beat Oklahoma St in their own building decisively the next week. It's a never-ending circle if you say Oklahoma can't get in bc they lost to Texas, but then Texas can't get in because they lost to Tech, and Tech can't get in because they lost to Oklahoma. Bc Texas lost last second and very well could beat undefeated right now, I'll agree and say they got screwed if they don't get an opportunity (they aren't completely out of the BCS game yet), but regardless someone has to get screwed each year (how about UNDEFEATED Auburn who plays in a major conference not getting a title shot).....i'll quote an ESPN analyst and say (in reference to the Big 12) the South should just secede (sorry JD) and let the real teams in the Big 12 (North) play for the real Big 12 Championship and decide it that way.

In this case it is not the BCS's fault.
It is the Big 12. They are the ones who put the BCS as part of the three way tie breaker.

Well, I mean...it's like the 5th timebreaker or some crap. Nobody ever thought 3 teams would be 11-1 and that one loss would be to one of the other 3 teams.
Sadly, with the recent TV contracts on bowl games, I really don't see when any changes would ever happen.

Texas Tech beat Texas. Why aren't they in it?
---- Obviously, I'd like a playoff. But, the team left out will always have an argument. I mean, it's reasonable to state that conference champions should have preference over teams that didn't play in their conference title game or didn't win their conference. At that point, you just get in to a big ol' bucket of fail with some conferences not even having a conference title game and some conferences just being massive fail and producing a 3/4 loss conference champion.

Umm, did you not see the last two games they played? In the elite 8 I just can't include a team that gets thrashed 65-21 then has to mount a 4th quarter comeback at home to beat a bad Baylor team.

That's just it, though. They'd have just as reasonable an argument as Texas to be included. And, there are other teams that could argue that some teams didn't even play in or win their conference title.
There will always be someone arguing. Whether it is Texas and the national title or Boise State and an at-large bid or the #9 team in the nation looking at an 8 team playoff.

I don't agree, at all, that Texas Tech has as reasonable an argument as Texas (just look at those last 2 games!).
And, you can make the same argument for the 65 team NCAA basketball tournament, but that doesn't mean it's in anyway better than the current system where only 2 teams get a shot. Of course there will always be a 9th or 10th team that will complain, but how often will they really legitimately be anywhere near as talented as one of the top 2-3 teams? Not very often, if ever.

OK, so we've made it through the bowl season with just the Championship Game to be played and it's still obv that we need a playoff... I think if I had a vote I might just vote Utah #1. Who knows, they might be the best team. Texas looked average against Ohio State. USC looked very good. Hard to get a read on Thrusday's game, I think Florida should win, but who knows?
Thoughts? Opinions?

The SEC and Big 12 were seen as the two big conferences this year.... however the Big 12 has certainly looked average in the bowl season, Oklahoma State losing, Texas Tech losing, Texas just edging OSU (from the Big 10!). Thursday' game should be close, I think I like Florida, but Im not really sure...
As far as the Utah argument, it's very flawed. LOL at the Utah attorney general filing a case against the BCS....to quote PTI, ISNT THERE ANY CRIME IN UTAH? Don't you have something better to do? But anyway back to the point. Alabama has been overrated all season and this was a known fact....it's why as an undefeated #1 seed they were still a dog to Florida entering their game. So I don't give Utah's victory over them that much water.... yea they beat a decent Oregon State team (who did beat USC, though clearly on an off night), but the problem is, if you want to be considered the best JOIN A MAJOR CONFERENCE. I believe that Florida, Oklahoma USC and Texas would all defeat Utah.

For a person who doesnt get your college system properly, and having read this thread and been pretty confused from the first post, does anyone want to be kind enough to give a quick 5 year olds walkthrough of how it works and what your on about??
Big12? Elite8? Conferences,Bowls, everything! Ill google it too, but sometimes they make it worse |

You get past it by realizing they barely beat Ohio State, who got destroyed by USC and also lost to Penn State. So considering that why not put USC or Penn State in the national championship game over Texas. Not to mention Texas lost Texas Tech, who got beat by Ole Miss in their bowl game. If Texas went undefeated then theyre in the national championship, so what do they have to complain about. Their fate was in their own hands, but they couldnt beat Texas Tech, so they are where they belong.
The BSC is a joke but sometimes people seem to miss the real problem with it. Like the people who we will hear complain that Utah shouldve had a chance to win the championship. But it was Utah's own fault that they had no chance at the championship. The athletic director, or whoever put their schedule together, put one together that guaranteed that Utah would not have a chance at a championship. So fire whoever put together the schedule, schedule games against top opponents, consider joining a better conference, and then the BCS will be less of a mess.
