Default Brett Farve

I haven't watched a NFL game from start to finish in probably over 5 years. I moved to WI 3 years ago and haven't seen a Packers game yet. But all this doesn't stop me from having an opinion of Farve.

Prior to all this retiring business, back when I watched football, I never understood the hype around Farve. He was a solid QB that could, at the best of times, will his team to victory. But I have seen him do more stupid things and lose more games that his teams should have won than I have seen him do great things. But now, fuck him. I never thought he was was Hall of Fame material anyway, and I hope this keeps him out for a few years at least when he eventually does retire.

Thoughts?

I've been a long time Packer fan, and of course like all Packer fans, was overly infatuated with him.

I'm very angry at him. He's ruining his legacy like this. None the less, he's on of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, and has several records.

I'm disgusted that he is now playing for the Vikings. He took the Packers deep in 08' and should have kept it that way. Went out in style. Instead he's sucking the dick of any team that will sign him.

As a fellow Packers fan, I agree completely. I hope he snaps his leg in preseason and never plays another down... especially not in that faggy purple uniform.

He's a first ballot Hall of Famer. And it's Favre.

I'm just glad he signed a two year contract so, maybe, I don't have to listen to his dumbass waffle back and forth about retiring from January to August.

Also, Jerry Glanville is a bastard and I hope he is haunted to this day because of what happened in 1991.

Hmmm, $12 million a year, or ruining some fans thoughts on what my legacy is that I will never see again. Damn that's a tough one.

Hmm, sitting on my ass, shooting deer, drinking beer, and chewing tobacco watching endorsement checks roll in so I can roll them up and blow coke through them or getting pounded on by 350lb lineman til February which will further jeopardize my ability to walk past 50 just so I can add more money that I won't be able to spend to my gazillion dollars in the bank.

Shouldn't be that tough imo.

I don't care what anyone says, I'm buying a Vikings Favre jersey, I want to be a walking oxymoron.

I think it was less about wanting to play then it was wanting to get revenge. He has said over and over that when the call didn't come in '08 sayin, "hey we would love to have you back" he felt like it was a slap in the face by the Packer's organization(We all know it wasn't, it was just the Packer's having another B+(maybe better) QB waiting to fill his shoes). He went to NY last year and had the team in a position to make a run at the playoffs when he got hurt and things went downhill, if the Jets made the playoffs I doubt he would have come back.

I think its more about proving to people that he can still play (whether he can or not) than anything else. And sticking it to the Packer's (who he feels wronged him) cant be hurting things either.

The whole I'm retired, oh wait no I'm not, oh wait yeah I am, is getting really old and I hope that this truly is his last season regardless of outcome.

The issue I have with all the Favre hoopla is this... Favre retiring one year and signing with a new team the very next year really nullifys any NFL contract. If the commisioner is willing to allow a player to retire out of a contract after a season and re-enter an entirely new contract with a differant franchise as a result of the retirement without any penalty, something is wrong with the league. Why wouldn't every dissatisfied star player do this? I'd expect recourse if I were owner of the New York Jets...

Yes, this is my biggest problem with the whole thing too. Totally makes every contract good as void if this bs is allowed.

Besides that, I really don't care much about the whole thing. I am a little on Favre's side if anything. I mean if he's happier playing then let the man play, it's not like he's the one making a huge deal about it every offseason, it's the media. And his legacy isn't gone no matter what anyone says, I don't even think he's some amazing QB, sure he has tons of records, but they're both good and bad. pretty sure he has both the most interceptions And TD's, that just comes with playing for tons of years.

LOL... there is no such a thing as a guaranteed contract in the NFL. A team can basically release a player at anytime (save for injury situations). So, if a team can void the contract at will, why should we have a problem with a player finding a way to get out of one as well? I'm sure the contract has provisions in it to deal with Favre retiring early (foregoing payment of future amounts and/or the return of a pro-rata portion of his signing bonus or other guaranteed amounts). Teams of lawyers are pouring over these contracts on both the player and team side, it's not just as simplistic as you've stated.

Favre didn't retire to get out of his contract, he was released by the Jets.

The lockout in 2011 when the player's union pushes for guaranteed contracts is going to be fun to watch.

Yes... but remember I'm old, I did have a favorite team for 30+ years before the Jaguars existed. When I was growing up and first got interested in football (early-mid 70s) the Packers were the shit and thankfully I never became a Lions fan.

Put yourself in Favre's shoes. You are a 40yr old QB that loves the game and can get paid 25mil to play for two more years. Who wouldn't do that? Yes he was indecisive yadda, he didn't want to go to training camp. If you were the coach and you are looking at Jackson, Rosenfels, Booty or Favre as your starting QB options, who would you pick?

Many of the Vikings players were calling Favre to talk him into joining the team. That shows he is a welcome addition to the team training camp or not. You have Adrian Peterson running the rock. What QB wouldn't want to play with him. It will be fun to watch all this unfold throughout the season. I'm glad he came back.

As far as HOF, he's a shoo in obviously. He's got all the passing records, and a coveted SB ring which Marino failed to achieve. He plays with passion and it is fun to watch.

Because it fucked up ESPN's broadcast schedule last Tuesday night, and due to that my dvr didn't record the entire WSOP episode that went 20 minutes long because they spent too much time covering that bitch's press conference to annouce her signing with the Viqueens. That's why.
