new intel macs

I am reluctant to ask this because I am not a techy person and don't want to start some mac vs pc flamewar. However, I do value the advice you all give, so I will risk it.

Will the new intel based imacs be able to run the downloadable sites and the tracking software? For example, on one of these machines could I download and play at partypoker while using pokertracker?

Or am I doomed to play on pokerroom forever?

My understanding is that the Intel-based Apple machines will continue to run OSX and will not run Windows-based software except through emulation.

That said, I believe Full Tilt just released a client for OSX. (I *think* it was FTP)

Thanks, I was thinking that it was an OS issue, but, as I said, I really don't know squat about computers so I appreciate the clarification. Full Tilt released a beta downloadable program for macs. It is pretty cool that they are accommodating the small market share, and the downloadable program is quite smooth.

The only reason I haven't switched to Fulltilt completely is that the only tracking software available for macs is called macpokerpro, which only works with java based poker sites (the ongame network).

Of course the easy answer is that I buy a PC. When not playing poker I am a scientist and have always used macs. Macs have dominated biological research for quite some time, at least in academics-the best imaging software for fancy microscopes are mac based. So for continuity reasons we have always had macs at home. Maybe it is time that Daddy gets a PC computer dedicated to poker.....

I read something this morning that said the units WILL run Windows if you choose. I'm not sure exactly how this works but if that's true, then it's most likely VERY EASY to set up the system to dual boot - You wanna play poker? Reboot into Windows and play away. Wanna do real work (again, not starting a war here )? Reboot into OSX.

If this is the case I'm REALLY kicking myself in the ass now for buying a new notebook in August '05. Shoulda waited. Grr.

I think you can dual boot easily, but you void your license and warranty with Apple if you put Windows on the machine.

I'm not sure you do with these machines. Apparently Jobs himself said they would run Windows easily. (At least I'm pretty sure that's what I heard on CNN's Headline News. Waiting for it to play again for confirmation)

Follow up information. I just read that the new Intel Macs will NOT support WinXP EASILY (as in much hacking required apparently). However, if you happen to have a beta of Vista - boot away! Something to do with Intel's EFI.
