My personal favorite was when I bet with eight high on a KK66x board, and was called by 22.

I once called-down bets all the way at the $100NL for $100 of my money. I even called a $50 raise on the river where my pocket 66 were the bottom pr compared to the board because the guy was totally agro. I showed my 6's and he mucked without showing. i couldn't believe my read was actually right. That was the smallest hand that I won with in a raised pot for a whole buyin. Stupid huh?
I don't remember any specific hands but I have shown down and won with many blind hands worse than that, yet some were even in a raised hands. Damn I hate the blinds. |

I've been called by people playing the board before. In fact, I'm almost sure I was called once by a guy playing 42 or something and posted it here, saying he must have put me on 32.

The story behind this hand is funny actually After being called I was like thats a winner.... I ddint throw my cards in the muck they were still in my hand...it was my turn to show (since iw as called) but Im like go ahead, show what you got... Im mucking... (still didnt throw mine in) but had them in my hand ready to throw in the muck He turned over 8 high I was like WTF? and turned over 10 high... the dealer pushes the pot to MY OPPONENT saying I made a verbal declaration that I muck. I protested saying I said Im mucking, as in , in the future tense, as in I am going to muck once you show your hand... floor person was called over and made us split the pot. I wasnt happy (dunno who was right or not but whatever) The cards never left my hands, and I didnt say I muck (even if I did so what, I cant say "I fold" when theres no option to fold.... whatever

I won with J9, wchich was just jack high. I had suited cards and someone bet the flop, and i called with a flush draw. There was also one other caller. The next cards did not give me the flush, but we all checked and they both had lower flush draws and no pairs, so my jack high held and I took down the pot.

I see a lot of people here just flip up their high card.
I don't really like it cause they can ask to see the other card since they called you, but most of the time people will let you get away with it if they can beat you.

Seriously... never throw your hand away at showdown unless you are CERTAIN it's not good. Even if you only win 1 extra pot out of 5000 because of this - because the other guy had a WORSE draw, or because you misread your hand and made a goofy straight, etc - that is an awfully expensive mistake to make.

Most places require both cards to be turned face up, on the table, in order to contest for a pot.
If a guy turns up one card and the other guy mucks, that's different. But if I call a guy and he shows one card - even if it beats me - I'm gonna ask him to turn up the other too. |

I will make people show me both before I muck if I call them just because I want to know what they are playing with (for info). I always show both when they call me (unless they show before me and have me beat, I muck) I never show one card, I may say "J high" show the J and then show the other card. I figure if they call me they deserve to see my cards.

Verbal declarations are binding. If you said, "I raise," you have to raise - even if you haven't put chips in the middle. If you say, "I fold," or "I am mucking," you have to fold.
