Default Table Time

thought of starting this thread today.....How long does it take you to get settled in a table to the point where you start making profit. It always seems when I sit at a table for the 1st time it takes me about 30 minutes before I start winning their money if im at 1.00/2.00 table I usually lose about 10-15 dollars untill I start winning it but within a hour later im either even or ahead and continue up from there. I bet alot in beggining of game to see how my players play like if i totally miss a flop with AK I might run it to the river to see how a guy plays his hand or I might bet to see if he slowplays or not. Anyone else have opinions on this.

Yeah, I tend to do the same thing for a little while. But the weird part is that those hands i chase to the river to probe for style often end up hitting on the river! And it makes me wonder if I play to tight...

Haha and a funny story to go along with it, the First I met one of my good friends named Pete we played headsup for a couple hours. We were just fooling around, and there was no money on the line. I decided that we should show eachother our cards after each hand so that we could both try and figure out how the other played. For the next hour or two we flipped at the end of every hand, but there was one big difference in my play... I didn't look at any of my hands! That way i didn't give off any reads, but I had a fun time reading him! He was happy after his win, but he wasn't happy the next couple of games (for money of course )

Sorry Pete!

obviously it depends on the cards but anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes

if i win a good pot near the start i can relax a little and play my game a bit better knowing that if i lose/fold or whatever im still up on my session

once youve been at a table with other players you can usually get a feel for their style of play and pick up the odd extra pot here and there (well at the lowish limits anyways).

I'am pretty good at reading bets like today I raised this guy with top pair but a terrible kicker q-5 suited and the guy reraised me I thought for a minute and I was like "he dont have it" and I capped him. We called the river he bet again and he checked the river to me. I won of course he missed his draw now what I didnt understand is you raise on flop on draw to get the free card on turn and the river but this moron bet the turn also....LOL. And another one I bet into this guy and he re-raised me I knew he didnt have it so I re-reaised him again he folded of course and I just laughed. Oh yea sorry to drag on but I got to tell you this I had a K-X suited and I hit top pair on flop plus had the flush draw so I bet it to protect my hand everyone folded and some guy called me a asshole and to stop bluffing or he will bust me. I had $150.00 at the table he had $4.00 I laughed told him I had the top pair and nut draw and I asked "you gonna bust me with 4 bucks" so I busted him out when he capped me pre-flop with my AA then he reloaded and I took that to these guys crack me up.

going into a ring game with little cash will cost you a lot in the long run - i dont know why some players dont just move down the limits

You will be a loser if you continue to reraise w/ top pair, "5" kicker.

read again I had a great read on how this player played he bluffed constantly raised pre-flop everytime no matter what he had. I would of never done that against a good player but because of my notes on him and my great read I was about 90% sure I had him beat. Oh yea and ran EVERY HAND.

For me at the $25NL talbes it can be anywhere from an instant double up to 1-2 hours before I "start making a profit" if anything. I usually scout out a good table and know who the fish are so when I sit down I know how hard to push the good hands.
