Default Longest Loss-less Span

Just wondering how long typically you guys go between loses. I am aiming more at the O8B guys but hold'em as well. Reason I ask is because I have played strictly O8B for about 4 months now and if memory serves me correct I have had 1 losing session in those 4 months, that being a $20 set back right before I started going on a tear in the New Year. Up +$400 US in the past 9 days.

Yeah, reason I wrote and asked is because I gave myself a scare yesterday. Was down about $40 and luckily got into a few 10+1 sitngos and those are cake on UB, ended up 2nd in both. The quality of player for O8B on UB is absolutely terrible, I like .

Default O8

I have not done well in the ring games for O8. The play is terrible, but when ten terrible people see the flop its bound not to be a good thing. I have done very well in the tourneys. Went on a nice winning streak, then lost 2-3, and now am winning again.

I think the losing sessions in O8 are less and the winning sessions win you less because it is a split game. Less chance to lose and win big if your playing right. I might hit the ring games again but I have had no luck there so far.

I would love to give Omaha a try, only because I suspect people just don't know how to correctly play it. I'm one of those people, but I'm smart enough to stay off the tables.

Waiting for johnbaker's O8 guide.

Default Buy it..

I bought Winning Omaha/8 Poker
by Mark Tenner, Lou Krieger.

I found it very good for starting to learn the game and know how to win. Biggest key it seems: play mostly cards with a chance to sweep the high and low. Do not bother with the split-pot crap hands.

Thanks for the link... do you think I should read it? I mean ... I like where I'm at with my hold-em game, both NL and L, so should I ever bother learning a new game? Is the Omaha action that much better? I'm guessing Geoff will say yes.

i think that with o8b there is a much better chance of putting together a long win streak than there is with holdem, especially at the lower limits. because so few people actually play well, there is a significant edge to the experienced player in these games. if you know what you are doing, and you can lay down marginal hands, then you have a very good cance of surviving in the game.

recently i have been on a pretty good streak as well, and the only losing session that I have had was because i left the table when it went heads up, and i wasnt that interested in playing shorthanded that day. other than that, every session has been a pretty good winner.

Okay, I do understand your reasoning, however I disagree that winning sessions win you less. My explanation is that when you do know exactly how to play, you will actually win more IMO than hold'em. My reasoning is you have a better chance at AT LEAST half of the pot, hold'em it's either you win or lose the entire pot. In O8B, a lot of times I'll be going for the high with an A4 and 2 high cards, and then the flop comes down 235 and I'm laughing all the way to the bank. People in O8B will almost always draw to half of the pot, but the only time you want to do that is when you are high and there is no low pot.

As for ring games, you are right and people do play with rags. However, all the better to shove in some extra bets with a good solid hand. The game will correct itself in the long run so playing in a weak ring game can be extremely, and believe me, I mean extremely profitable. Everyone and his mother knows the basics of hold'em, but in O8B knowing the basics, you'll get ass-raped by anyone who knows how to play.

But sitngos are the easiest. Let's see, I played in 7 sitngos this weekend and came 1, 2, 3, 2, 1, 2, and lost one on a bad beat. But I bought in $77 in tourney fees and cashed out $210, nice value. And these are generally the same people I play against every day. I played the ring games but couldn't find my niche this weekend so I think I should've stayed away from them this weekend, but other weeks I've run rampant. I remember playing a few months back on Party at a .50/1.00 table and winning $45 of a $60 pot. LOL, on low limits that is incredible and it is extremely hard to find a hold'em pot that large at such low limits.

My longest winning streak... Playing $5/$10 short Hold'Em.... I logged 31 out of 32 winning sessions, including more than 20 in a row. Not bad for short seated

I really do need to start logging, I've been playing a ton lately and it would be cool to see how much longer I can hold this up. Maybe I'll break DiMaggio's record LMAO. I think it's been about 20 sessions since I lost, and my lowest win was $12, so I'm not counting $1 and $2 profit days (those days suck ass, and ever notice it's always the marathon days?).

i cant believe i was dumb enough to say that i was on a hot streak playing o8b. first session after the post was just a slaughter of missed draws and counterfeited hands.

serves me right.
