Default Using PT to evaluate your game.

I was farting around 2+2 when I found this gem of a . It explains some simple ways to us PT to evaluate your game. I ran through my 7.5K $50NL 6-max hands and learned quite a bit. Figured I’d share.

1). My button play leaves a lot to be desired. I am a winner in UTG+1, a big winner in CO, but only a moderate winner from the button. This surprised the hell out of me. I think since OTB I am the loosest (rightfully) I am getting stuck with marginal hands in this position more often. This is compounded by #2.

2). My HU play needs work. I knew this going in and now I know exactly. My bb/hand positive, but nowhere close to where it should be in HU pots. Although, evidently, I rock in multi-way pots (read-statistical anomaly I’m sure)

3). My postflop aggression is ok, but I should be better. I think I need to c/r a little more (not a ton, but it shouldn’t be such a rarity) and fire first barrels a little less while firing second barrels a little more. A lot of the time I CB as a default and I need to back off a tad to come up a plan for the hand if/when my CB with air gets called. Also, something I have started to try is after a CB gets called and the turn gets checked through, firing on the river when a scare card hits (An Ace, a card that completes an obvious draw, etc.) in HU pots. I think doing this a up to a third of the time or some is probably +EV in this game.

Well, I mostly wanted to post and link the . If someone has more to add to it, please do so here.

This is a nice find. I've been avoiding going through it all in detail until I had the time to do so, but that may never happpen, so I'm going to give it a whirl and see how far I get now.

I'm only going look at my stats since October 1 (for 6 max NL), since I think that should give me a reasonable picture of my play. 43k hands. I'll post any particularly interesting things I find here.

OK, so far, I've been happy with all of my numbers, until here:

This is the first negative number I've come across, and it's significant. I think this is definitely somthing worth exploring more, as it could be a significant leak. I don't limp much at all, but maybe I need to be three betting or folding more, instead of calling raises...

What you can do at this point is review some of you biggest losing hands and see what went wrong. I can already tell you that I need to start pitching ATo from the blinds when someone raises. That would have saved me a lot of money. I'm down with AKo too - I need to three bet that more.

Turns out I'm also an overall loser in multiway pots. MY worst multiway hands: JT, 33, AJ, QJ, QJs, and AKo. Yikes. This will require further investigation too.

33, 44, 55 and 66 are overall losers for me (BB/hand, anyway). Glancing through them, I am seeing some sick beats (flopping sets and being ourdrawn), but this is still worth further review.

I'm an overall loser with suited connectors too.

The definitely was a nice find. +Rep. IMO, it's not so much the content of the OP (which is great, mind you), but forcing yourself to go through all these steps and do a self-check up on your game. This is something we should all be doing regularly, and I doubt most of us do, especially based on the lack of responses to this thread.

On a serious note TP, I'm sure calling from the blind w/ hands like A10 is a serious leak.

I'm only 21/16 preflop, but my CO and button steal range is gigantic! Against TAGs, I gotta believe 3-betting is the optimal play.

Edit: Actually, now that I think about this more, you'd probably be WAY better off folding from the blinds, than just calling.

Agreed. I and USUALLY fold AT and AJ from the blinds and 3 bet with AQ. But apparently I just call with AT and AJ enough that it's still a leak. A soon to be plugged leak, I might add.

I have this bottle, but didn't drink it last night. I'm saving it until after I take down the Bahamas tourney next week:
