'min raises'
Here is an interesting article about smaller raises preflop - not technically 'min raises' since he is advocating raising 2.5 the BB. But, anyway for what its worth (i am posting this after the discussion on eejit's mis-click/min-raise from a hand history).

Its has some pluses, but I don't really like it
- It ignores one big negative, you arent accomplishing what you want to accomplish preflop...limiting the field. Most players who will limp should call a small raise (of course not late in a tournament where 2.5 BBs could be a standard open) - Sure when you CB on the flop, it costs you a few less chips, but it also cost the player who decides than since u CB 90% of the time and raise with junk alot he's playing back at you a lot, less raising chips When you do have a big hand which is up against a strong but not crazy hand, you'll make a lot less money on it, because the betting will be influences by the pot size. Thus to make up for this you'd need to steal a ton of extra pots, which I don't think will happen (at least not enough to offset the chips your losing when these situations arise)

agreed
I am thinking that him being an established pro helps limit the field when he makes these raises. Or maybe its more effective in real life. I have messed around with this a bit online and it has never worked all that well. I have not really TRIED it - but playing around with it online has been a disaster. Now, i just do it once in a while to mix things up.
Of course - i should point out that just about everything i have touched since January ends up being a disaster - so maybe i am not a good example to judge this with. |

We played with Gavin in the Bahamas, remember? During that high stakes $30 SNG we had going with Isabelle, Wil Wheaton, etc.... Man that was fun. I don't remember him 2.5x raising then, but I do remember him dozing off (aka passing out) between hands.
