A way to avoid these complaints
There are some of us fine folk out here in the 'innernet' that don't mind the more risque sites like those that have been posted in the past few days. You guys know the ones I'm talking about (and this would include Hawt's "who am I gonna try to pick up next" thread").
As TP has mentioned, he has received complaints from some of the users about some of these threads. What I propose is a new section: The Champagne Room/The Boom Boom Room/whatever. Access to this section would be through request only. Now, this would only fly if the vBulletin software allows for some areas to remain transparent to users who don't have access to it. That way, the people that would complain about this section will never see it and will have nothing to complain about. Anyone who requests access to this section loses the right to complain about the content of the section. That way we'd have a place for all us perv...err..adults to discuss the finer points of the internet. Just a thought? Not sure how much of a pain in the ass it would be to look after on the back end. I've only ever used IPB and didn't have different levels setup like this. |

This is an interesting idea. I could very easily set up another section of the forum that is password protected - or one that only certain users have access to. Granting permission to 100s of people to view said section would be a royal pain in my ass, but ignoring that for a moment....
This may not solve the problem anyway. Let's just say for example (and I am TOTALLY making this example up) that pshabi's mom doesn't want him viewing naughty sites on the internet. She allows him to visit TP.com, but gets very upset when she hears him talking about links he found there that go to an adult site. Now, pshabi never complained about said links (in fact, he quite liked them), and he even asked to be allowed into the grown up section. Yet here I am still having to deal with his angry mom, and then next thing you know, no more pshabi on TP.com, because he's grounded and not allowed to visit the site and shit like that. And in theory, it could be worse. If people were to (extreme example) link to something illegal, I could be held liable. Again, just a hypothetical example, but the point is your solution doesn't really address this problem. I would think people would know (or tell their kids) to not click on links to external sites that are clearly labelled as going to an adult site if they don't want to go to an adult site (!!!), but like I said in another post somewhere, I apparently give people way too much credit. So let's discuss this and come up with a policy as a community. Keep in mind, we're not saying what WE want individually or even as the majority... we are trying to come up with the solution that is best for the site. Should links to adult content be allowed? If so, should they be in a dedicated section? Or should we just leave that type of thing completely off of this board, and stick to (mostly) poker. Me - I'm leaning towards the latter, for the good of the site and it's future, but as always, I'm willing to listen to others' opinions. Think about this though, real quick. Let's say some well known female professional poker player (take your pick, Robb) decided to check out this site someday. Wouldn't it be a shame if she was turned off by the adult stuff and decided to leave and enver come back, instead of becoming a contributing member? I think it would be. And I don't think the benefits (ooh, a couple of adult links - big deal) are worth the risk. |

Some of those links are pretty nice and I'm not complaining about them at all- But I think a section full of porn-type links Might make this forum seem just a little trashy. I don't think anyone should have any trouble findin that kind of stuff on their own anyway.

Very valid points. It would be a shame in Ms. Ng chose not to participate .
Seriously though, you are right - this is, first and foremost, a poker-based forum. While we have strayed SERIOUSLY far from that genre in some things, they are usually clean. I also understand that it's a lot more difficult to run a website/forum while constrained by some of the laws passed to "protect the people" in the United States. I would really hate to see anything happen to this forum because some kid lies about his age and his mommy finds out that he clicked on a link from your forum to see some dancers. (Never mind the 87GB of hardcord pr0n he has in hidden folders on the computer) So she sends in the feebs or whoever and you end up in a boatload of trouble and the forum goes away. That would SUCK! If given a choice, I would much rather have a forum dedicated (more or less) exclusively to Talking about Poker and leave the other stuff for other forums. Those of us that want to look at that sort of thing already know where to find it. If you don't, you don't belong online That said, I still think I would like to hear about Hawt's exploits but it may be necessary for him to crop some of the pics so that only the face is shown. Either that or no picture at all. Going back to your original question about female professionals - they may not like the fact that the members of this so-called great forum post pics of their ex-girlfriends. The forum is talkingpoker.com, let's keep it about (more or less) talking poker. |

Well, it's settled then.
For the record though, I have no problem with Hawt's posts. PG rated pics of pretty girls are one thing... it's the R (and X) rated stuff that crosses the line. |

Unfortunately as much as I love R (and X, and XX, and XXX) rated stuff I have to agree with TP.
That stuff has its place, and yes you should post it, but NOT HERE. If you want to email ( ) or post somewhere else where it is more on topic, it works out GREAT. But here, no.
