Modest goals for me. I honestly want to start taking poker as serious as I do sports betting so for me:
Play more cash than tourneys. Play enough to get into the Iron game at Full Tilt. Turn a profit at NL cash tables no matter how small or what the stakes. Gotta start somewhere, and this is it for me. Had to dip pretty deep into my sports betting roll for some things around the house and to catch up on medical bills so I am actually betting half as much per game this year as I did last year, so I am looking for income anywhere I can find it.

I stayed away from the August goals thread simply because I wasn't really sure I had any goals for playing poker other than having fun. I was fleshing out a new site, (for me that is) Party, and wanted to get a feel for things there. Now that I've got an idea, I feel confident enough to set a goal for September: build my bankroll. Specifically, build it up to $1000. I'm figuring on doing this through a mixture of $25NL and the $11 speed SNGs. They've both been pretty good to me thus far. Once I get my roll up to $1K, I'm hoping I'll be ready to move up to $50NL - I don't anticipate any problems.

Between Boobie, sjay, and JD, August was a pretty good month for some of the high rollers around here. It is inspiring to see such numbers. But the other low rollers need not be intimidated, goals are for everyone at all levels.
1. 6k distraction free, focused hands at $25NL and $50NL. 2. Work on ≥ level 2 thinking while playing. 3. No matter how I am running (or others) focus on decisions not results. (When not playing a lot of hands, I find this challenging.) 4. Finish reading Theory and Practice Last edited by melioris; 09-01-06 at 12:10 PM. |

These are great goals.
I haven't come up with mine yet, but my #1 goal will be to play more than I played last month! I hardly played any cash games... I'd like to earn 10k points at Full Tilt so I can get in their Aussie 7 seat freeroll in October, but I think I might see about setting up a Rake Back account there first. I have lots of points to spend from this account before I do though... |

I'd like to pocket $1,500 profit this month (hmm, make that $2,500 if the Steelers win by 5 points )

I will be taking the month of September off from on-line poker, the string of bad beats and bad luck at the end of August has really soured me on poker and I think time away will be good... time to get back into an exercise routine and spend time watching some football with my two boys!

I failed miserably at the last goal, but August went by way too fast, and I probably didn't even get 1000 hands in. Then again, I like to single table, or double at max...so for this month:
1. Qualify for at least one NL WCOOP event 2. triple my bankroll (including a steelers win! so essentially make $1k) so get it to 3k 3. move up to 200NL by the end of the month 4. Stay at bodog!!

I hit my bankroll mark for moving up to 5/10 NL, too bad my favorite site (Bodog) only spreads full rings tables above 3/6 (which I hate). I'll likely just stay at the 6max 3/6 NL at Bodog since it's basically a license to print money, and dabble playing 5/10 NL at Party and UB. So goals for this month,

1. pay back TP and RD (done)
2. Get a bankroll back online, enough to go back to the $2/$4 NL 6MAX i was on last year, not $3/$6 had too much time off. 3. Qualify for one of the WCOOP NLHE games, and be awake for long enough to play it. 4. Finish buying the Harrington Series, and read vol2 and 3, and re-read vol1. 5. Finish off the website im doing. Easy goals, if i put enough time and effort into #3 and #2. |

Ok, here are my goals. Some will be results oriented (you'll know which), but that's ok. They are just GOALS. If I don't achieve them, no worries. At least I'm giving myself something to shoot for.
1. Set up a new account at Full Tilt by the 15th - one where I can get some Rake Back. BTW - I should be able to hook you guys up with a fat 27% rakeback there in the very near future. Stay tuned. I'm going to miss my Rogue23 account, and I guess I have a LOT of points to cash out (maybe I'll get a jersey), but playing there a lot and not getting rake back is stupid, I guess. And I plan to be playing a lot soon, as you will see. 2. Beginning on the 15th (this will actually be the 21st for me), earn 10,000 Full Tilt points by October 14th to qualify for one of their Aussie 7 seat giveaway tourneys. I will be playing $400 and $600 NL mostly, but I may play some 6 max limit ($8/16 and $15/30 mostly) to mix things up. I highly doubt I'll be moving up to $1000 NL, but you never know. Maybe I'll have a JD/Boobie month. Or maybe I'll go broke and end up playing at the $100 tables. Ugh. 3. Win a super satellite seat to the Borgata Main event on the 14th. I'm willing to take two shots at this, assuming the tourneys are $1000 each. 4. If #3 happens, I want to play the best I can play during the main event and hopefully go deep. If #3 doesn't happen, I will be playing in the $1000 and $750 tourneys that weekend with the same goal. 5. Make a few attempts at winning trips - Aruba, EPT, WPT PCA, Australia, whatever - and hopefully take one down. 6. Most importantly, I need to get this site updated. I have all sorts of affiliate links I need to get up, changes I want to make to the forum, and most importantly, I've got some rake back deals in the works for everyone. My goal is to have all that set up by the end of this week - the 8th. No more putting it off. |

This makes great sense, but I'd be interested to hear your method. I just set up a 2nd account, but am a bit fearful of funding it via the same Neteller account as my 1st account. Also, to get rakeback, I signed up the 2nd account under my own bonus code. Talk about leaving a trail....

Yeah, that's a really bad idea. I honestly don't think I'd even try that if I were you...
I too am worried about how to fund the account, but I guess I'll deal with that when I come to it. And I can't find the "rules" in Full Tilt's terms anywhere about multiple accounts, etc. I'm not really sure what needs to be done, but this is my guess as to the optimal way to do it: 1. Close the first account. Cash out all $, points, etc. 2. Wait a while (couple of weeks?). 3. Open the new account - clean computer, different IP address, different email address (same name and maybe even mailing address should be ok). 4. Fund it from a different source. IDEALLY. After the account is up and running for a while and everything is happy, you can probably change some of your info (like Neteller info) back to how you want it. Again, this is just a GUESS. If support gives you any trouble, you could tell them you closed the old account for Reasons X, Y, and Z, and then changed your mind and opened a new account. I really don't know. If anyone has any info on this, I'd love to hear it. |

I decided to do a little more digging about this, and the more I read, the more I hesitate to change anything AT ALL. It might not be worth it. Maybe I'll try to find myself a nice rake back deal somewhere else instead.

Agreed.
The sad part is that after playing at WPEX for a week, I realized just how much rake I'm losing per year. What's sadder still is that I already have an account on most of the major sites which prevents me from getting a good rakeback deal. I'd LOVE to have rakeback on Full Tilt or Pokerstars, but have no idea how to swing it successfully. In the interim, I'll probably be going Silver/Gold Status and somehow converting FPP store items to near-cash solutions like Amazon GC's, etc. |

I'm in the exact same boat as you.
BTW - you will never get Rake Back on Stars. That's not an option. |

workout 4 times a week, stop procrastinating homework, get decent grades,
and in between college life and partying find enough time for good poker play and the 90k in 100 days.

90k in 100 days. Ohhh - $900 per day. That's so stupid. A real man would go for an even 100k.

LOL.
So far, so good for me. I'm up about $400. You know, I don't think I played more cards all last month as much as this past weekend and the results are definately showing on my sharper, crisper game.

I've decided to make a few exceptions for my month off... like possibly the TP heads-up tomorrow night and an MTT here and there during the month just for kicks.

1. Turned out to be a little frustrating, probably dropped $100 for the ME, and 1500 FPP for one of the earlier NL events...oh well, I tried.
2. looking at a couple hundred short here, I was slow at the beginning of the month, but up 1700 in last 2 days... edit: thanks for the bonus pokerstars! Goal = met. 3. I moved up too soon bankroll wise, but for some reason my moves and reads are much better here. 4. Fuck that! I was sliding there...maybe I will go back for 200NL, but 100 became a headache.
