Default Post your weakness...

A couple of weeks ago, melioris started a thread asking people to . So now I want to know, what's your biggest weakness?

For me, it's not quitting (soon enough) when I'm losing/running badly. I don't tilt much, and I never move up in stakes to try to chase my losses or anything like that, but I tend to extend my sessions way longer than I should. And a lot of those times, I'm not playing my best. I don't think I play horribly, but I definitely losen up, especially from the blinds *suited connectors start to look way too good to me) and especially against the table idiot who is naturally killing me. I also get a little bit too aggro, I think, thinking to myself "OK, no way did you just hit THAT hand (again)" even though I know damn well he did.

Last night was a good example. I was at a table with two huge donks and they continued to suck out on me over and over. Then, because I started playing badly, I started losing pots to them that I didn't need to lose, trying to win my money back. Eventually, one guy disappeared and I still stuck it out, even though I was running terrible. I ended up winning some back in the end, but still finished down a few buy ins more than I should have, if I had just quit when I realized it wasn't my night.

Your turn.

that i suck, when i say suck i mean being worse than everyone else i play against. on a serious note, i find my self playing a perfect mtt for hours then out of the blue i do some crazy ass move i normally wouldnt do then i bust out. lately ive been playing alot of limit cash games and ive been very productive. limit prevents me from blowing my stack all on one hand like i seem to do over and over again in no limit. so i guess my weakness is finding away to blow up on one single hand.

Not appropriately sizing of pots. I let pots that should be small get big on me and sometimes don't get pots big enough when I should.

Not making enough value bets (Winning the small pots), and calling all-ins (losing the big ones). Everytime I see a fast all-in, there's always that little thought "he's trying to buy-it, that stupid bastard!". I think the next step is learning to think "HE JUST PUSHED ALL IN---HE HAS A HAND". And When I do have the hand, I tend to CB the Flop, and no one calls me. Ever.

two things, both of which you touched on in the OP
1). chasing loses
2). playing after I lose the discipline to make decisions for the right reasons. I guess people call this tilt, but tilt is such a misused phrase that I try not to use it when describing my playing.

Default Playing when I don't have an edge

Unlike some of you high rollers, I'm playing 3/6 and 4/8 limit live games exclusively. Even with rake and tips, the game is beatable, assuming there are at least a couple of donators at the table. But they'll be some quiet Tuesday nights when it is me and five or six other regulars, taking turns winning small pots from each other. The only one making a profit is the house, and I should rack up and come back another day. But I stay and end up slowly pissing away a half a rack.

Being lazy. Don't work on my game near enough. Don't review my sessions. Don't get enough hands in. Also don't take enough shots in higher limits.

Being aggressive with junk when missing.
And I hardly ever push with junk, even if I know the person will most likely fold.

Besides being chocolate ...my poker weakness I play too tight and I need to play more aggressively. A few months ago I stopped taking notes on players and I really need to start back up with that. I also think one of my weakness is playing AK. I have to keep remembering that any PP beats AK 6 out of 10 times.

I listen (read) when players (at my table) insult my play (instead of simply ignoring it), which then upsets me & which causes me to play poorly.

What a huge difference that makes (locals vs tourists/weekenders). When i get to AC a few times each year - i am usually there for a couple weekend days and a week day or two. What a HUGE difference the tables are Saturday compared to Tuesday.

AKs is actually a slight favorite over dueces and even an unsuited AK is less than a 60% dog to all pairs. It's no worse than 43% even if its unsuited and the PP is broadway (thus interfering with the straight draw) and the pair is of the same two suits as the A and K

In addition keep in mind AK is only dominated by AA and KK so playing it strongly preflop is usually wise because you have fold equity, you are representing AA or KK and worst has you likely are a coin toss. This is talking about when you are raising, reraising, and betting with AK -- not calling or checking

A sample hand from a session earlier this week

5/10 NL

MP opens for $50, I reraise from LP with AKo to $200, folds around to original raiser who calls

FLOP: 7 23

MP Leads out $200, I instashove for $825

I like this play because:

1) I took control of the betting preflop

2) My opponent just called preflop

3) Since I have AK it is unlikely he has Aces or Kings

4) If I had AA or KK in my hand, this is exactly how I would play it

5) His play seems to indicate a medium pair that is betting out for information rather than going the more expensive route of check raising

6) I don't think he can call my all in

7) If by some chance he musters up a call (I'll take note on this later and exploit him) I probably still have 6 outs to hit a King or Ace and take the lead. That win percentage combined with the fold equity by shoving easily makes this play +EV

Had I just called preflop, or not raised on the flop this play is obviously impossible and then the % matters that AK is a dog to a PP

Just a quick example.
