I agree with you JD (of course, I'm getting outdrawn for much smaller stakes). I don't know how shabi does it day in and day out. I tried the limit game for a few months to help clear some bonuses I had and I found I was just barely breaking even, sometimes that was even with the bonuses. I've switched back to NL and I'm seeing a profit again.

I was a die hard limit player for a long, long time... The thing about limit is that once you are a winning player and have established a decent win rate, it just becomes giant math problem. You play like a machine and over 1000s and 1000s of hands, you WILL grind out a profit. The more you play, the more you will earn. Yes, there will be short term variance and you will go on losing streaks, but as long as you are playing better than your opponents and making less mistakes, you will win.

That said, after seeing some of the results by some of the NL guys (JD and Boobie here, and a LOT of people I've met on various trips), I knew I had to switch. I get tired of the grind and playing so mechanically. With NL, you need to think more, be more creative, and IMO, there is potential to win much more money (per hour) than with limit, given the same monetary risk. The variance is higher, sure, but that's something I'm willing to deal with, and so far, so good.

Other than maybe messing with one of these minbet deals that JD posted about last week (for fun more than anything else), I think I'm done with limit cash games for good.

Default Well suited for some

Different players are better suited for different games. For me, grinding out the limit ring games is the way to go. The game is more than enough challenge for me, and I’m happy to pocket the wins. And personally, I’m much more comfortable having even the worst beat cost me no more than six or seven BBs rather than my whole stack in one hand.

I occasionally play low NL for fun, and there is no doubt it is a more nuanced, difficult and interesting game. But for many like me, it is not a more profitable one.
