Default TP's 2 minutes of fame - 2006 WSOP...

These clips are from the poker documentary, . It's honestly the best poker film I've seen yet, really capturing the excitement (and disappointment) surrounding the WSOP. You can "buy" your very own copy for 1500 points in the .

If you'd like to go back in time and relive the whole experience from my point of view, check out my . It's long, but there is lots of good stuff in there. There is also a thread that has the - that's right, I was THE short stack entering Day 2. Woot.

Anyhoo, here is the entire Chapter 9 from the DVD (there are a few shots of me early, and then my big scene is about 5 minutes into it):

For those who want to skip straight to the big hand, here it is... I raised (to 15k, I believe) preflop from UTG with AK and Fabrice immediately moved all in (for about 100k more) from the SB. We were down to 11 players, and while I had him covered (I had another 150k or so behind), I was in prettyu good shape and his raise represented a lot of my stack. I was all but certain that it was a race situation - After he asked if I had TT, I put him on exactly JJ, as you will see. I then asked him if he'd push in with AQ, since that's the only hand I'd want to see him turn over if I called, and I decided he didn't by his reaction. I opted to fold and not gamble for so much of my stack, really hoping I was right and Fabrice wouldn't show me AK... Sure enough, he had JJ.

In hindsight, I'm still not sure if this is a spot where I should have gone for it or not. I was playing great poker and felt I had an edge over the remaining field, so I chose to wait for a better spot... Meh. No regrets. Well, not about that hand, anyway. Conversely, from later in the tourney still haunts me. Oh, what could have been.........

Great Vid.

It really does capture the moment, the point you work out his hand after telling him you would have thrown 10-10 makes him really uncomfortable.
You get a sight of him sinking back into his chair, I guess he was thinking its all over for him at that stage.
It was great to see you talking to him and reading him so Right.
As for folding I suppose in the circumstances you were spot on, I bet in that position you would be happy to see J-J if you held them against A-K , I think you will find it hard to find anyone who will critise your play under the circumstances and the stage of the tournament.

Seeing you at the live tables you act so calm and knowledgable I cant believe you dont play so many tournaments Live and be out there making a Name and a run at Fame.

Theres so many televised tournaments over here in the UK and they love inviting The US and Canadian players mostly because they do what you did and read the game so well.
But are not afraid to throw away hands.

Again Great Vids.

I love that in the voice over he says, "I must show nothing" but at the table he then says, "two tens?" Not exactly showing nothing. Nice read TP.

Nice. I'm surprised that he flipped his cards, particularly since you called out his hand. If someone nailed my cards I'd never confirm they were right.

I'm not sure I could lay this down in this spot, although I can't say I disagree with the move either.

He wanted to see my hand. When I said, "I can't call" and started to muck my hand, he said, "I'll show if you show." I REALLY wanted to see his hand, and I had no problem showing the table that I was capable of laying down AKs there, so I obliged.

After you say, "you have two jacks though, right?" what was his reaction? I ask because a few seconds after you kind of shot him a look like, 'don't bull shit me.'

This was over a year ago, but I'm pretty sure he gave me one of those, "I don't know" kind of looks, if you know what I mean. I was pretty sure my read was right.

Awesome video. Is one of those "what if" hands that you wonder about (if u had called and won the flip what would have happened)

I also like how the announcer kind of insinuated that Fabrice pushed the better hand out with his bet -- funny

On a side note, I will 100% be at the WSOP next year, either during some of the prelims, the main event or both

You lived the dream man! I'll bet you are huge in France!

OW91 and I are heading down to Vegas at the start of July. we are just waiting for the 2008 schedule to be announced. We have a line on a time share too.

We won't be down long, but hopefully to coincide with a 1500 event.

I'd probably be down for that. If nothing else, a TP suite or adjoining suites... something like that.

I'd prefer to do the preliminary events thing again, but it's way too soon to say.

Come on, dude... no one needs to plan THAT far in advance.

They'll probably announce it in another couple of months.

Care to expand on this?

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't an easy fold and it was really close for me. If he had more chips, it would have been easier for me to throw my hands away... less and I probably would have called (and FWIW, at the time, I thoguht he had a bit more than he did - I didn't ask for a count, and I should have).

This was a tough spot, so I decided to go with the "I'm playing great and don't need to take an unnecessary risk" logic. You're more of an "I have AK, so let's get it all in the middle" kind of guy, aren't you? I'm certainly not saying that's wrong, btw - just stating an observation.

The wife want wants to start fishing for travel deals and for hotels in case the time share falls through.

In our house, the "big summer vacation" planning starts at around T-minus 10 months.

Oceanwaves can be a little A-type about these things.

Only reason why I like the laydown there is that you were close to the bubble if I remember it right. So why flip at that point. You had a good amount of chips left.

We were down to 11 players and had been in the money since the previous day (it paid over 100 spots, as I recall).

I have zero regrets about this fold. If this was a cash game or maybe much earlier in the tourney, sure, it's an easy call - but this was one spot (two technically) from a WSOP final table... and I had a decent stack.

There are two reasons I hate the fold. Firstly, There are already chips in the pot. Secondly, Having the additional chips at that point in the tourney should give you a huge advantage as you should be able to use them as leverage to control the table and take a huge stack to the FT. You also eliminate a very good player from the competition and that has value as well. Not to mention I just dont fold AK in tournaments unless the situation is extreme. I believe in tournaments you have to attack and constantly push to gain chips.
