Default For the Florida Boys - B&M Tourney News

Was out doing my traditional last minute Xmas shopping today. Finished up early and the mall just happened to be near our local B&M who had been running ads for their Friday SnG turbo tournaments. I wondered how they were getting around the new interpretation on Florida law re: the $2 betting max, so I had to stop in and check things out. Plunked down my $45 ($32+13 ugh) and sat at one of the one table SnGs.

Well, the way they've gotten around the new interpretation of the law is they've changed the value of the chips used in their tournaments. Used to be you'd get $1500 in chips to start (using a combination of $50 and $100 chips to start), now the chips values are $0.00100 and $0.00025 and you start with 9 of the .00100 chips and 4 of the .00025 chips. So, even if you go all-in when you're down to HU it doesn't equal $2. Pretty clever way to get around the issue.

On a side note the format for their SnGs is a complete joke. Let's just say those .00100 chips are 100 and the others 25, so you start with 1000 and the blinds start at 100/50. That's right, you're down to 10BB from the get go! Total bingo game. I lasted 2 1/2 orbits, won one small pot, lost another small one then with only 600 left and the BB at 200 I get dealt pocket 8s and have to push all-in, folds to the BB who was the chip leader (poor player with a great run of cards), who called w/99. Needless to say, with that ridiculous juice and bingo format I won't be going back there for anything other than possibly the Sunday 150+ player tournament where you at least start with 2500 in chips.

Interesting that that works, since chip values mean absolutely nothing. I would think the "true" value of the chips could be calculated by taking whatever the total prize pool is divided by the (whatever fake number) total value of of the chips is.... that number would equal the ACTUALY value of the chips, and there most certainly would be bets a lot larger than $2 being made.

I did notice when I drove by the local track the other day that they have $150 NL tournety on Sundays now. That's pretty cool, even though they probably keep $50 for the house!

We'll see how long this lasts.
