Default WSOP Fantasy Draft League?

So, what are the odds we could get this figured out in time? Anyone interested? $10-$20 each pool?

I actually saw one of these out there that had $100k prize pool and I wanted to say it was about $30 to enter. However, I would absolutely be interested in something like this. Say, we get a list of how ever many pros and we all draft, what, about 4 of them. We could draft in possibly a chat room through some sort of instant messenger or something. Or maybe TP could set up a chat room on this forum if he hasn't already. I wonder if you could steal the code for just like a night? Anyway, 10 or 20 I am fine with, but I would like to see lots of people involved with this so if people want to participate but aren't willing to put up that much then who knows, but at least everyone could scrape together ten bucks.

I don't know exactly how we would do points if we were to do this ourselves. Is there any interest in this though, it sure would make me enjoy the WSOP more.

This has potential, but how would it work? Someone go steal some rules / scoring systems from another successful WSOP draft, if you can find one.

"And the first pick of the draft, made by team Talking Poker, is for......... whaaaa? Who in the hell is Mark Petrillo???"

Default Seems easy enough

Teams will consist of 6 players. Owners will select their 6 players in a "serpentine" draft, in which teams pick 1-10 in Rd1, then 10-1 in Rd2, then 1-10 in Rd3, and so on. Team draft order will be based on lottery.

- Scoring. Simple, total $ won by all players on a team. Team whose players combine for the most money won during the 10k World Championship, wins the league.

I just copy/paste from another one I am in. Of course everything is negotiable but this is the basic idea and simple enough for most to follow.

Prizes would be based on the number of entrants.

I'd be in if it happens.

Well to start, I think that there is no "list" to choose from. You pick a set number of players (say 10) for your team (from any players even this Petrillo guy), choosing them in a randomly selected order (as is the case with automated drafts for sports, but we could set it up manually). If someone you ick doesn't go to the WSOP then you are out of luck.

Then by WSOP points earned in the main lis of official WSOP events (not circuit obviously) your team accumulates points.

I don't usually participate in this kind of thing, but it sounds fun. But don't you just mean Main Event?

Also, I am in another on where you get to submit as many players as you wanted but they cost you $50 each. You could end up with the same players as somone else, for that matter your entire team could be identical.

In this one it's average dollars won by each player on your team, or for the math impared, total money won divided by number of players you have. This keeps someone from purchasing 30 players and trying to buy the win, got it?

Interesting. As I see it there are a few ways we could do this.

First, we need to decide if this is going to be for the Main Event ONLY, or for the entire WSOP. I STRONGLY recommend we go with the Main Event only. It will be much simpler, and will give us more time to finalize everything before we have our draft.

Next, we need to decide if we want to:
1. Have a set entry fee and a draft (where each player can only be taken once)
2. Pick a set number of players (say, 20) to make a "team" - multiple people could have identical teams this way (but likely wouldn't)
3. Let people buy as many players as they want, as per Penguin's suggestion. Again, people could have the same team, and this one requires doing a lot more math.

Of the above, I'd be inclined to cross #3 off the list first, so that leaves #1 and #2. I'm quite happy with either of those. #2 would be simpler, as it wouldn't require having to have a draft. If we go with #1, depending on the number of people participating in this pool, I think we could easily do teams of 10+ players without too much of a problem.

This should be fun. I'm in. Let's hash out the details in this thread, and then I'll start an official thread with all the rules we decide on later.

In my experience from fantasy sports getting everyone together for a draft will be tough, very tough.

Number two would probably be the best option for everyone here. Number three can get expensive, unless you want to do it for a dollar per player.

Whatever you decide I'd like in.

I was thinking all the events on te official WSOP list. That way it pays to have balanced players who play multiple games instead of those that only specialize.

I like #1

If getting a common time is an issue for a few people, we could do it in a forum thread (or chat room somewhere)and those who can't make it could have someone make predetermined picks based on your weighted list (chose top 30-40 in order and that person picks the top one left for each round).

Yikes..... that's getting pretty complicated, don't you think?

I agree that would be "ideal" though.

Either way, I'd much rather do it for ONLY the Main Event, so we have a month plus to get all the details sorted out and get everyone together, instead of just a few days. It will be easier to "keep score" too.

Due to time issues I think doing the ME only is the way to go. If we have a month, I am sure we can get a draft together, but who is going to come up with the list?

He's actually a pretty good player.

Ok, so it sounds like, for simplicity sake, we are leaning toward this:
-Main Event Only
-I say we do a friendly $10 entry fee (I will of course do more if enough people want to, but less seems pointless)

What we really need to decide is if we are going to do a draft, or just have everyone submit a "team" of 25 players or so. The draft would be a shitload cooler. Doing it in the forum would be a nightmare, but we can set up a big AIM chat or something, I'm sure.

Any thing else to consider before I start the official thread and see who is in?

I have an administrator friend at another private forum that got a chat room specifically for the forum. Now this is not only useful for this draft, but also for railing and all kinds of things we can do. I don't know how expensive or easy it is to get since I am not familiar with how those things work, but yeah...just a thought.

I also have no problem with doing the list thing if we can't set up a draft. It would still be enjoyable.

Oooh. That would be a good idea. TP, do you have any chat scripts that you can enable? (not necessarily INSIDE vB, but within the talkingpoker.com domain)

That would save people that didn't have AIM having to get it.

I don't like the idea of having a chat forum on TP.... I've explained why before. It would be good for THIS, yes, but not for a long term thing.

No scripts handy, but I'm sure I could search the vbulletin.org site (or someone else could - hint, hint) and find something that would work.

No, I agree, not necessarily a long-term thing. But a password protected chat for drafts and the like.

I took a quick look for vB chat scripts and saw a couple but didn't get a chance to dive into them.

What about installing an external chat module (PHP based or something like that) that would be accessed by a URL such as or something like that?
