Success in a multi
Well, after having failed to crack the top 100 in a dozen or so Party Player Points freerolls, I had a very good run yesterday afternoon, finishing 6th out of a field of more than 1700, good for a payoff of $75.
It took forever – over three hours to get to the top 30 (the cut off for getting paid) and another almost 90 minutes before I busted out. If it hadn’t been for the Godfather DVD box set, I wouldn’t have been able to do it. I played strong poker, but would have had my usual early to mid exit had I not won five or six coin flips in a row. Pocket pairs held up against overcards, and my overcards paired when faced with small pairs. Hand of the tourney for me came two hours in. I have KK in early position, and raise a decent amount. I get one caller who has about 3/4s of my stack, who re-raises all-in. Easy call. He has QQ. The first card of the flop – a third Q. The river – a third K. I have a new respect for the endurance of successful big tourney players. I love the game and can sit at a card table for hours, but after four plus hours I was feeling pretty fried. The other thing is that it’s just not worth it for the low dollars offered in a freeroll – the rest of my points will be spent buying Party-branded beach towels or something. |
