MNF "controversy"
what do you guys make of this whole "controversy" over the T.O. monday night football introduction. i don't see why everyone makes stuff like this such a big deal personally.

I don't think it was all that big of a deal, HOWEVER I certainly understand why the people that are upset feel the way they do. I am all for more naked women on TV, but in the right place at the right time. I have small children whom I would rather were not exposed to stuff like this until the right time and you would like to think MNF is a safe haven from such things.

What was actually shown during the intro that is provoking this reaction?

yeah i realize that it wasnt the perfect time and place for it...but it was a joke, and it wasn't even racey really. i think it's a little ridiculous, and definatly not worth all the hub-bub about it.

I think to a little kid it might be considered racy. It wasn't just the fact that Nicolette Sheridan was "suggestive" to TO, but she was half naked.
From a societal perspective, I think it was distasteful. From my perspective, I thought it was great. (Although if yer gonna do it, at least get Eva Longoria.)

Dungy's response
According to Tony Dungy
"I think it's stereotypical in looking at the players, and on the heels of the Kobe Bryant incident I think it's very insensitive. I don't think that they would have had Bill Parcells or Andy Reid or one of the owners involved in that," no offense to Dungy but this is a little bit of a stretch |

i have absolutely no problem whatsoever with what was shown on tv. i could also basically car eless that janet jackson flashed america during the super bowl. i think that americans are desensitized to violence, and yet there is moral outrage over anything remotely sexual.
what i do see wrong about this however is that the nfl runs a complete double standard. they criticize espn for airing playmakers because it portrayed nfl players as violent and the league as full of sex, yet they advertise their brand with somewhat racy monday night football intros and endorse video games where post play violence is encouraged and rewarded. the hypocrisy of the situation bothers me much more than seeing faked nudity on tv. |

I agree with eddo. I think it's ridiculous that this is being made into a big deal. It's ok for kids to see people shooting each other on tv all day long, but a bare BACK on tv after 9:00 PM - Oh no! Not that! That child will be scarred for life!!!

And let's not forget one thing...to preface, I in no way condone this type of thinking, but if that had been Brett Favre, instead of T.O., it might not be as big a deal.
As stupid as it may be, racism still does run deep in this country..and I am certain that plays a small role in this. Flame away if you must, but I'm just calling it like it is

race? lol, race didn't have shit to do with this, it had to do with the naked woman. brett favre, T.O., jerry jones, the pope, ANYONE who had done this would have driven the same amount of controversy.

I think this whole thing has been blown out of proportion thanks to Janet Jacko and Sir Justin and their sickening display at the Super Bowl. Thank goodness I didn't see that because I personally don't find Janet Jackson to be all that good looking or appealing. However, if my wife looked like that when she was 40 I think I could accept her.

i dont think that mentioning the race card here is out of line. with how disconnected i feel from the majority of americans, i would not be surprised at all if the moral outrage from the bible belt is just as much about interracial sexuality as it is about the fake nudity.
it is interesting, although i dont hold much stock in it having major importance, but the red states correspond almost perfectly with the slave states, while the blue states were all free. are our racial views still that far behind and out of whack? i hope not, but i think they are. |
