Default What do you think of Pokerstars Signing Joseph Hachem?

I want to know what you guys think about this. Do you think he will turn into a good online competitor?

um...dont think the reason behind his signing was whether he'll be a good online player...

but, in any event, IMHO its a tad too early to tell whether hachem is a great player or just a flash in the pan.

e.g., from the past few yrs' champs, IMHO raymer is definitely a great player and hes one of my most favorite pros.

as for the rest of the recent ones, im not so 100% sure...to be fair, it could be that they just got heavily into commercializing their success (e.g.: varkonyi and moneymaker both have several successful poker-oriented ventures that keep them very busy).

your right we have to wait a little bit longer to decide of Hachem is a good poker player or whether he got lucky at the Series.

it is really irrelevant if hachem is a good player or not. he could be the biggest loser in the 100/200 game next year, and still have plenty of money left over.

pokerstars did another good thing for their image with this signing, and they have just done more to solidify their standing as the leader in online tournaments. they clearly offer the best variety in tourneys, the best high limit tourneys, and the most toruneys, so having the most visible tournament players as members of their team is pretty significant.

Some reason I feel more of a Chris Moneymaker type thing here than a Greg Raymer.

I dont consider Raymer an flash in the pan at all as he is a great player and has proved it several times over the past year. As for Moneymaker, is he still alive?

Completely agree... Raymer is solid, Moneymaker got lucky and has done little to nothing since. I think Hachem will fall somewhere in between.

Signing Hachem is a completely marketing based decision. What other site can claim to have the last 3 WSOP main event champs under their helm? There is value to that claim and Pokerstars is certainly solidifying themselves at or near the top of the online poker industry.

I expect that trend to continue. Sadly, at some point, I feel they will release Moneymaker from the helm unless he has some more successes.

Raymer is so well spoken and I feel a better player, that I believe he'll be around for the long-term at Stars.

John Gale was signed for a bit at Stars, but was unfortunately let go for unknown reasons. Oddly the timing of his departure was right before his performance at the WSOP event for which he finished second.

Evelyn Ng is there for obvious reasons, as is Isabelle Mercier. Wil Wheaton is also signed at Stars and while not the player that the other pros are, he has unique marketing skills via his writing ability and blog that are seen as assets to Pokerstars.

Is there anywhere that lists moneymaker's finishes since the 03 WSOP?

Here is the link to his web site.

He isn't the greatest player in the world. However, I don't think he is as bad as people make him out to be either.

dont think Joe ever claimed to be a great player, his wife gave him premission to play in this event. He is a family man that plays poker in his spare time for recreation. I think he will continue to play for recreation, Joe seems real down to earth honestly he probolly will keep his job even though he is a millionare he just seems like that kind of guy.

Greg is a great player he has proven that over and over.

Chris....well he isnt as good as Greg but he is a decent player, he has final tabled the shooting stars torney and recently at the WCOOP but other then that I dont think he has made any other final tables.

People put too much into what the champions do after they win the main event. Just because someone dosent make countless final tables after they win the main event dosent mean they totally suck. Think Joe will be a fine rep for pokerstars, think Greg is a fine Rep and really think Chris is a fine Rep. As for pokerstars signing them all well as usual great job by them.
