Your sitting with how much?!?!
So after my trip to the casino the other day, I am beginning to think I could go make some money playing limit. Now, I saw people buying in for $40 at 3/6 games and was wondering what the correct amount to sit down with at a limit table is? We know that it is 100 the big blind is max for most NL tables, is there a guideline? Obviously its higher than $40 at a 3/6 table...

As long as you have enough to cap every street the whole way down, you're good to go. That's 4 small bets preflop + 4 small bets on the flop + 4 big bets on each the turn and river = 12 big bets total.
I typically buy in for the "suggested" amount, which is 25 big bets for most sites, and then reload as necessary if I drop below the magic 12 big bet mark. |

A rack
Customary buy-in for my local live 3/6 game is $100, which is convenient, as it is one rack of $1 chips. People certainly buy-in for less (I think minimum is $40), but $100 is the standard. As it is not that uncommom for action to be capped ($12) pre-flop, you don't want to be short-stacked.

I always buy in for 25 bets, live or online.
