I haven't played in these, but was hoping we were getting on track to having bigger NL tourneys available (which I would have played in). This is definitely a step backwards, but I think it's only a temporary one.

I'm no fancy big city lawyer (ahem: Aeq, RD), but I have researched Florida gambling law quite a bit as it relates to poker. And IMO, there was nothing in there limiting poker tournaments. That's not to say there shouldn't be, but as best I can tell, there is nothing in there now.

It's only a matter of time until the people in charge pay attention to this line from the article and realize there is much, much, much more money to be made if they would legalize poker:

---
Poker revenue has added more than $4 million to state tax rolls since 2003, according to the wagering division, The Associated Press reported.
---

I'm hoping and predicting that Florida follows California's stance on poker in the next 5 years or so (and hopefully more like 2).

I'll have to pull out my Fla statutes and have a look.

Default Derby Lane

Any of you Floridians play here regulary? I have made it to one $45 tourney on a Friday a few weeks back. I hope to make more of these. Also looking for a home game in Tampa. Since I moved here my live play has been very limited.

Before you make a point to make more of those, you might want to read the article above that says there are no more of those.

Yes, however I heard from someone who knows a dealer at Palm Beach Kennel Club who said the $45s are coming back today.

But that same dealer also said "all tournaments have been shut down because a J'ai lai poker room in Dania was running a bad beat jackpot which is illegal for everyone other than the Indians."

So, one card room broke a rule in handling their cash games and the gaming commission shut down tournaments statewide apparently.

I'm waiting for more official word.

Good looking out...let me know if you hear anything new. Derby Lane was running a 400 person 45$ pre thanksgiving tourney this upcoming Sunday, I wonder if it will still go on. I almost registered for it when I was there a few weeks ago but didnt. Oh well...
