Default First session at 1/2 limit

Ok, so I thought I'd tell y'all how my first session at 1/2 limit went.

first: I play mostly NL, I haven't read a single limit book (even tho I own Lee Jones book). Reason mainly because I got a long list of books I wanna read first: Poker Essays series, Positively fifth street, Zen and the Art of Poker, and another one I forget.

Ok, I wasn't even going to move up till next week, after doing some more data mining, but I figured 'whatever, if I lose I lose.'

2 hour session

Start: Blinds adjustment was rough, I played quite poorly IMHO (K8s hand type play), and lost 20BB really quickly 4 tabling. Then I made it up and was up 2.5 BB (woohoo!).

Middle: So I felt a little good to be up 5 bucks... Then I took a nose dive. Dropping 30BB in such a short period (I'd say about 15 minutes) AA losing to AJ on a Axx flop was one hand that hurt. Then I disconnected with AA PF, and later found out the other guy had ak... and there was an ace on the flop there also. Yeah I felt like killing myself right about now. I was screaming at my computer to connect me lol.

End: Ok, I won a bunch of pots to go up 10BB from start. Then I won a few decent ones (Me aqo flop JTx 10SB I call 1SB turn is checked river K it gets capped).

I finished the session up 61 bucks. It wasn't a very long one and I played 4 tables (dive right in!).

Nice to win a lot more money in the same amount of time, especially for my first session at these limits.

*pats self on back* CHEESE

Default Glad you finished up ...

I think four tabeling your first time at a new limit is really risky. Personally, I can't handle anything more than two tabeling, and even then I know I'm not milking the maximum profit out of them, so I usually only do it if I'm in bonus clearing mode.

But can't argue with a 60 BB profit!

Hey,

No not 60BB 31BB or something...

Well I am fairly comfortable 4 tabling. I mean I have zero overlap and can watch each table semi closely. --- Also my going over the hands I datamined did make me a little more confident (that the 1/2 tables are kinda like the .5/1 tables..) I'm sure when/if I move up to 2/4, it'll be a lot more gradual.

Also the risk of losing my roll is... well my 'true' BR is more than 3k so... I have just made a PP BR and been building it up while learning limit. Also my PP BR has been built up from 250 to 800 bucks so the risk of 4 tabling is a little less.

It's just weird learning limit. I mean I don't like bleeding chips and hate making mistakes. So I put extra pressure on myself. Which I know is sometimes real bad .

Cheers,

Gutzz

Default No Difference

If you played .50/1 reasonably well over a period of time 1/2 is just adjusting to the new chip color. Not alot more skilled or anything. Keep plugging at it and if you get a chance read Small Stakes Hold Em. It is a great limit book.

read the jones book first if you want to play low limit holdem. all of the other books that you listed are helpful, but the jones book pertains exactly to your situation, and it is very helpful.

i agree with the other sauggestion about not 4-tabling while trying a new game. even if you can do it without overlap, and you feel comfortable 4-tabling in general, you arent comfortable with the game yet, and that is the most important thing. be patient with it, and pay attention to 1-2 games for right now, and put in the hours there.

Ok ok ok.

How bout 2 1/2 limit tables and 2 .5/1? Honestly I don't feel like I have to try to beat .5/1, so by having 2 of each I could just focus on the 1/2 tables? Then, after I've played, say, 4k hands at 1/2, I could open 3 1/2 tables and 1 .5/1? Then, after 10k hands, go 4 1/2 tables?

When I play NL on PS I'm usually 5 tabling... Now now don't make that face .

Cheers,

Gutzz

i dont doubt at all that you can handle playing mutiple tables at once, it was more just that you are making an adjustment to a new game.

i would just exercise patience. of course if you think that you can handle it, then by all means go for it. i would just be very careful and to make sure that your full attention is on the game.

Hey Pivotal,

I play on my laptop and it has pretty high resolution (1600x1200). The downside is I usually play while watching TV .

Yeah I'll slow down. Maybe just 2 table.

You guys might laugh, but I had planned on getting a 19 inch flatscreen monitor so I could eventually play more than just 4 with no overlap... I was thinkin 6-8 .

Hmmm, another benefit to just 2 is it'll strain my wireless connection less, when the connection is weaker.

Cheers,

Gutzz

I have been playing a little $1/2 limit myself...3-handed I was controlling the table and now the table has filled up, up around $35 for an hour's work.

3 handed limit freaks me out. I watch the 100/200 on PS and it's madness .

Today was day 2 of my 1/2 limit. I did play 2 tables, at least until the seats opened up on the tables I was waiting for. Sorry guys, I tried playing 2 1/2 tables and 2 .5/1 at the same time, but the difference in bets was getting to be rather distracting.

Session went much better than the previous one (even though I didn't win as much, I'm much happier with my play). I mean I wasn't doing as many crazy moves like I did before.

Anywho, I finished up over 50 bucks in 2 hours, which pleases me .

Yeah I'm a big Naruto fan. I think this's the third post where I've said that ^-^.

[edit: Just like to say that I will not keep posting how every session went, just figured the first 2 would be nice. Maybe when I go on a really nasty run, then i'll post it so you guys can make me feel better ]

Cheers,

Gutzz
