Ten Biggest Mistakes... Rank Them

Below are 12 mistakes grabbed from a sample, some of which have been combined in one mistake, that can be considered in the Top Ten Mistakes a Poker Player Makes

I would like everyone to rank these in order of importance from 1-10 (which means you'll be discarding 2 of them). When deciding the order of importance keep in mind these factors

- How often does this mistake come up

- How BIG of a mistake is it (meaning how negatively does it affect your overall poker game)

These two factors should be combined when ranking these mistakes. For example a mistake which is a big mistake that has a big negative affect on your overall poker game, but only comes up once every three sessions, would porbably be trumped by a fairly big mistake that has a fairly big negative affect on your overall poker game, but comes up 3 times per session.

After each mistake is a general explanation/description if you need a little more information (if applicable, some of self explanatory)

A - Plays too many trouble hands (AJ, AT, KQ,KJ, KT)

B- Undervalues the Gap Concept (calls too many raises, doesn't realize that even with an inferior hand, the pre flop raise is in a better spot ESPECIALLY with position and that raising with AT is generally much better than calling a raise with AJ)

C - Does not adjust play for position enough (plays marginal hands in EP, raises with hands he shouldn't from EP, does not take advantage of late positioning by readjusting his opening requirements, does not make full use out of the button postflop, does not value raises differently depending on where they came from)

D - Does not extract as much money as is possible with winning hands (slowplaying when betting would have resulted in a call, not knowing when to value bet the river, not betting a larger amount which would have been called also )

E - Emotional Control (Includes Tilt, Bankroll management, trying to "get" one player that you developed a rivalry with, playing till its all gone, playing scared money poker because of intimidating stakes and more)

F - Not playing aggressive enough (not making use of continuation bets, not betting in position when checked to, checking and calling too often, not betting and raising enough, not stealing enough blinds, not jumping on weakness)

G - Not paying enough attention to your opponents (Not picking up on tendancies, habbits, patterns and playing styles of your opponents)

H - Not adjusting your play according to reads you have on your opponent (This goes beyond, dont bluff a calling station and don't call down a Rock...it goes to things like, this player pays people off big time, so start playing more suited connectors, one gappers, small pairs, suited aces and other hidden hands even if [maybe especially] this player has open raised. If you have AK and flop an ace, he's likely to pay off with ace jack, don't check the river when he's called your first two bets, value bet it)

I - Not putting your opponent on a range of hands before making a decision (playing too much level 1 poker and not enough level 2. Letting your hand make the decisions for you, rather than the entire situation)

J - Losing too much money drawing against a made hand. (this includes playing hands likely to pick up a draw and have you throw more chips in the pot, only to have low implied odds when you do hit, calling with odds but low implied odds, not taking turn bets into consideration when calling on the flop, drawing with a medium sized draws)

K - Not understanding the different reasons for betting (isolation, value, bluff, denying odds etc) and adjusting your betting amounts accordingly (if someone generally triples an opponents bet when he raises, but three people called the bet, his raise isn't that intimidating. If the opponents bet is very small compare to the pot, it's not that intimidating. Being aware of the size of the pot and odds for drawing hands, so you can bet enough to make them make a mistake in calling, value betting the very most you believe someone will call and bluff betting the very least you believe someone will not call)

L - Betting on the river with a medium strength hand, rather than checking and calling (self explanatory)

Edit: I just realized something... if one of these things were a big mistake that many players were frequently doing, wouldn't a lot of people underestimate how big of a mistake it was, since they don't yet realize it? Just somethin to think about, and that different players on different levels may rank differently (or not even be considering some of these mistakes)
