The good, the bad and the ulgy
I only watch about 1 hour of TV a week. It is usually High Stakes Poker on Monday night (wife is out of the house). Clearly that is the good.
My vote for the ugly comes next. For me it is a tie between the World Heads Up Championship and (Mansions???) Speed Poker. It's good poker, but something about the format and production value gets me flipping channels. I did love Scott Fishman on the Speed Poker though. The bad I saw for the first time last night. Celebrity Poker. I love Dave Foley (I am big Kids In The Hall fan from way back), but how does Phil Gordon not punch him in the face? I'll take AJ and Gabe's crap over this any day. Obviously it's meant to be a celebrity show aimed at people who don't know, because the poker is just awful. It felt like I was becoming a worse player just watching the game. I had to turn it off and come read posts here to recover. I know it's been around for a while, but this was my first time seeing this load of garbage. I heard Phil H. has repalced Phil G. as co-host. Are those shows out yet? Maybe Helmuth will punch Dave in the face. (no offence Mr. Foley)

There used to be so little poker on tv that I'd watch it whenever I could. I remember bdawg and I calling each other back in the day: "QUICK! Turn on ESPN! They are showing the 1989 World Series of Poker final table!!!"
Oh, how times have changed. Ever since the WPT hit the airwaves and got decent ratings, more and more and more poker shows started popping up. I watched a lot of them in the beginning, but it didn't take long before I couldn't even watch most of the shows out there. Celebrity poker was the first to go. High Stakes Poker is still the best. For tourney style, I like Poker After Dark because they show every hand, and the WPT is still the WPT. I also don't mind the NBC HU Championship, even though it is extremely edited down, and for some reason they feel the need to allow second rate celebs to play instead of worthy poker players. Other than that though.... pass. |

Technologically challenged
I either have to learn how to program my VCR or get something like TiVo. I don't last long after dark. (at least that's what my wife says)

Tivo is the nuts.
Most cable companies offer similar DVRs for very reasonable monthly fees these days. Get one. Never look back. Thank me later. |

Who you calling second rate??? Don Cheadle has been nominated for an Oscar and there's absolutely NOTHING second rate about Shannon Elizabeth!!!

I wish i was there to have the chance at not watching it.
Here we get the following: WPT (very much delayed), WSOP (very delayed too), High stakes poker (still on season 2), and old WSOP/American open/euro HU stuff, this is all on one channel. On terrestrial TV we had the flagship programme that started it all, Late Night Poker which has now stopped. All we have on normal TV is the "Poker NAtions Cup" which im sure u lot get somewhere, and the partypoker european open (top prize $125k) I wish i had your programs to watch |
