I don't even like soccer, and I'm jealous. That looks like an amazing experience to be a part of!

Keep the pictures coming! That looks so great. Yeah, we beat England with a score of 1-1. Great defensive effort by our team and a lucky break to tie it. Michael Bradley is really coming into his own as a midfielder.
How is everything going in SA? A friend texted me a picture of himself standing next to a roadside sign warning of a "hijacking hotspot". How is the infrastructure holding up? How is the food? Total bullshit red card on Cahill. I know they won't, but it should be overturned and he should play. And the Danes looked good in defeat I thought, that game was closer than the scoreline suggested, although it is hard for me to root for Bendtner. Watched the New Zealand game with a kiwi friend of mine, hope you enjoyed that one! "Where's your Ballack!" |

SA has been interesting. The stadiums themselves are great, but it is quite difficult to get around. Many of the locals have no hesitation about lying to you. If you ask a taxi driver if they know where X is, they will say "yes" even if they have no clue. The taxis never want to put their meters ("it is broken"), so you have to negotiate the fare beforehand (they normally try to gouge you for 2 - 4x what the meter price would be). We flew into an airport the other morning and a shuttle bus service told us their bus would "be here in 5 minutes", which ended up taking over an hour. The streets are generally pretty sketchy (lots of scary poor dudes randomly standing around in groups), but nothing too bad. We ran into some scammers at a bar, but they were too stupid/obvious to get close. The local white people are extraordinarily nice to other white people. As young white tourists, we are constantly offered favours and greeted by local whites. I think it's because white people are a small minority here, and they are reassured by other white people (who they view as safe). The food is delicious. There are quite a lot of high quality shopping centres with excellent and inexpensive food. Lots of Indian places, as well as local SA game steakhouses. Capetown is awesome, Durban is sketchy, Joburg is v sketchy and Pretoria is decent. |

Also, I agree about the red card couldn't believe it. Hopefully the appeal will be successful.
I saw the NZ goal, that was great. I am def. cheering for them. I think the Danes will get through to the next round, they are quite a cohesive little team. They should be tough to score against. Next game tomorrow is France v Mexico in Polokwane. |

this is awesome, super jealous.
You playing the ME this year or got any plans to be in Vegas? You and your gf should make a stop there sometime so we can all get together, me and the gf will def be there for the main event, july 6-15. When we met up with Ryan and Cheryl it was awesome, so much more fun knowing a few people out there.
