Post What do you have? Nothing?

In home games, I have encounter that someone gets upset that a person will say I have nothing, when they have A 9 and the board shows K 4 7 Q 2. And the other person says well I have K hig; I win. The first person says but I have A high. Well you know where this is going. also when someone says I have a pair of AAs and they mean pocket but the board pairs. The other person having a QK and board showing Q 7 7 2 5 will say I have two pairs I win. Does anyone have any ideas what is fair.

It drives me crazy when people declare their hands wrong.

Fortunately for me, everywhere I play, the cards play themselves. So at showdown time, the hands are turned up and that's the end of it. Regardless of what people SAY, the best hand wins the pot.

Especially at the low-limits I play, it’s very important to see their hand to make sure they do indeed have what they think they have. My last trip to Vegas playing at the Excalibur at about 4 a.m., we had two separate players screw up straights, one who thought Q,K,A,2,3 would win him the pot, and a drunk who kept re-raising my set with 5,6,8,9,10. Obviously this is less a factor when playing at a table that’s even marginally competent.

It may or may not drive us crazy.

In these 2 instances, here is what I feel.

The person who says nothing, it is the other person's responsibility to make that person show the hand, or muck it. If they are going to say they have nothing, then they have to do one or the other. It is obviously his/her turn to show and cannot just say "I have nothing", he or she must react by showing the hand or mucking it.

In the other instance, I say the board speaks for itself. When someone says they have a pair of aces, it is quite obvious that they also have the pair that is face up, so I can see why saying I have a pair of aces is good enough. I actually do this myself, since it is common sense that you have 2 pair.

LOL, whoever says that should be easy to beat. Just show them the rule book after they bet their savings away.

Theres an annoying Chinese guy who is a regular fixture at the 5\10 game at the local casino he plays like a maniac and is always chasing straights and flushes. He is horrible for announcing his hands, you have to bring a Chewy(his name) dictionary with you to understand what he has it goes like this.

No pair = either a straight or a flush or absolutely nothing

Two and a half pair= The worst he has a Full house
Three pair= Also a full house

Various curses in chinese= He missed his hand and folds with disgust on the river.

I was recently playing with a bunch of friends, and we decided to ask a friend of ours to play who doesn't play a whole lot. Turns out he didn't have much of an idea of what he was doing so I have A8 and the flop is 882 so I now have trip 8s, and I'm betting and betting, and he's just calling me every bet. After the final bet I show my hand, and he says, "aww man.. I knew you had that third 8. Got me beat.." He shows his hand, and he has pocket 2s. Yea- he had a full house.. we pointed it out to him, and I let him have the pot. I was pretty pissed, but I know, in the long run, I'll be taking his money.

LMAO. The key to players like this is to bleed them slowly. Let them win once-and-a-while, small like a few BB. Then when you do hit them, win twice what you let them take. Repeat this process over and over and he will likely keep coming back for more.

These stories are, unfortunately, all too common.

The ONLY way to go is this:
- To contest a pot at the showdown, the entire hand must be placed face-up. Cards will then speak - regardless of what hand the player declared.

This is the only way to go. Otherwise, you and your friends will be arguing all night.

especially with all the weird home games i play, showdowns are the best way to go. i cant stand when people misstate their hand, especially when it is purposely done as a slowroll.

i sat next to a guy once playing o8b who continually misstated his hand, then rolled over the nuts. he knew what he was doing too, so thi smade me even more pissed off.

SNG type game at my buddies house with a flop of 4-5-5 two guys get all in, one with AK, the other with JJ, the turn brings another 4 and the first guy yells for a 4 or 5 so they split the pot?!?!?! How about calling for an A or K so you win it genious, well a 5 falls on the river and the first guy shouts yeeaaa and the second guy gets disgusted and starts counting the chips to split them. Of course I spoke up and reminded the second guy his full house was bigger, fortunatly the first guy realized I was right as he was about 2 and a half times my size, though for a brief moment I was worried that he was gonna say they both have a full house and his Ace kicker wins the pot.
