Mohegan Sun Summer Showdown
Taking a week vacation (seems like my job is safe, for now) the week of July 27, just in time for the Mohegan Summer Showdown.
If I have the chance to head down next Sunday, I'll try to satty into the $400 LHE. If not, my efforts will be to win a seat in the $2,000 + 150 ME. $75 super - 1/5 get into the next level, $300 where 1/8 get a seat in the ME. You may all wish me qapla'

OK, back from my first satty shot. Very happy I did not plan to buy into the $400 + 50 LHE. Only 36 entries. If I'm going to take a week vacation to shoot for some serious cash, that $4,330 1st prize would look very disappointing.
Played one $60 + 15 super. 1/5 entries wins a ticket to the $300 ME super (1/8 in that wins the seat). 32 started (6 seats, 7th gets $120). I ended up 12th. Starting stack of 6,000, 20 minute blinds. Nothing really earth-shattering overall, except for one great live-poker moment; the kind of thing that makes me say "I love live poker". Level 3 100/200. 30 left. I'm MP1 with 6,780, and have played very few hands so far(One pf raise that I took down with a c-bet). I make it 500 to go with J9 figuring maybe I can get a little jiggy with a mediocre hand that could stack somebody if it hits. Older guy (well, maybe 5 yrs older than me) in the 9 is the only caller. Pot is 1200. Flop comes 9 6 6 and I think I hear him check so I bet 800. he protests that he didn't check, and the dealer agrees. I take my bet back, and he acts like he's going to bet, then checks again (yes, people really do that). I bet 800. Now he starts looking at his chips and thinking. I'm pretty relaxed, if for no other reason than I can fold and still have a decent stack if I think I'm beat. I notice he's now picked up 3,000 and he suddenly looks right at me. Now I'm not really looking right at him, sort of off to the side, but I can see everything he does peripherally and it is clear he is trying to get a reaction from me. He put the chips down and counts the rest of his stack and then picks them up and looks at me again. At that point, I am convinced if he raises, it's a bluff and my intent is to shove over the top. He stares me down a little more and folds with a little too much effort to make it looks like he doesn't want to. I guess I looked too confident in my weak TP/WK. Things slowly slipped away. The old guy (sounds funny coming from me) limped in EP often enough to short-circuit some steal ideas I had, then after we were down to 16 or so, a woman with about 25,000 was moved to my immediate right and kept minraising most hands and ruining any fold equity I might have when my M got below 8. 13 handed right after the 2nd break we went up to 600/1200/a100 and I open-shoved for 7000 UTG with T7o. Guy who had me covered by 1500 or so called, and flipped up JJ. The good news was I flopped a 7 and rivered a T. The bad news? he turned a set. I'll head back down tomorrow of Wednesday for another shot.

In what way?
It is much larger than the big Vegas casinos, but only about 60% the size of Foxwoods. Good restaurants, good upscale bars, nice hotel. The pools in vegas are much better (much more "talent" hanging around them). The nightlife is better in Vegas. Foxwoods has a better game selection for poker, but it is the 2nd largest poker room in the world in addition to being the 2nd largest casino in the world after Venetian Macao and the largest in the Western Hemisphere. No sportsbook in the CT casinos. Edit: just thought of something else. Foxwoods and Mohegan are less than 1/2 hour drive from the beach, but I doubt Misquamicut is a good substitute for the pools in Vagas.

If so, any idea on where to stay? For now looking at the Mohegan's rooms

I don't really know much about the other hotels down there, seeing as how I live an hour away, but if Mohegan is booked, try Foxwoods. Only 8.5 miles away.
They are capping the tourney at 800 entries, so call ahead and see if you can buy in remotely just in case. The convention center where they're holding the event is nice, but the tables in the center are not as nice as the tables in the poker room. The tournament tables have strange looking blue felt. probably trying to outdo Foxwoods' annoying gold felt.

As is obvious from my post in the strategy section, I didn't make it through.
I did however, stop at Foxwoods to clear my head with some 4-8 LHE. Classic LP game with an average of 6 to the flop for 2 and sometimes 3 bets. I spent 3 1/2 hours there and won back my losses in the Mohegan Satellites. +$168 there. Of course, I was dealt aces (actually I was dealt AA each time) 3 times in the course of about 50 hands there. Could've used one of those in the tourneys.

no all my damn friends are broke and my gf is not quite 21 so I want to do everything but I never end up doing it for that reason.
Hopefully next year at wsop will change alot, cuz this year if I went I was going to stay with tdogg who is awesome friends with durrr and all those guys. As gay as it sounds if you want to do anything poker related while in college you really need poker friends, or just kids with rich parents. Or else it's like you can do everything and everyone wants to go with, but they just don't have the $.

No offense intended, because maybe me being an only child made it easier, but I never didn't do something I wanted to do just because I had to go solo. Maybe that's just my personality, but I do look forward to you equaling or bettering Wes' 2009 ME run at the 2010 ME.

Right, it's just I always find other stuff I can do here with my friends rather than leave and figure it's worth it to stay here anyway. I have no problem going solo I'd just rather go with someone. I mean if it was wsop ME or something I'd go solo in a second.
