My first live tournament!
Hi Everybody!
Im preparing for my first live tournament. As you probably know Im playing poker for only 8 months, but I have never played live before. Im traveling to Czech republic for 10.000 Euro guaranted one day tournament with 100dollars buy in. I know that in comparism to Krum`s or TP campaign its nothing, but Im exited like a child before Christmas. I`d like to ask you, is there anything I suppose to know about? Online poker and live poker are two different games, so I`d like to know what I suppose to take care about. Thank you! |

ALWAYS protect your cards untill you dont want them, Never touch anyones chips or let yours be touched, act in turn, wait to look at your cards untill it is your turn to act.....thats about all i can think of, good luck!

Result!
I woke up at 4oclock in the morning and drove 400KM (250miles) to Czech republic for a fine live tournament. Buy in was 100$+11$ with 187 players. It was really easy in the beggining. Most of the people didnt play poker long and they didnt know much about strategy. Most of them vere playing really foolish. They vere playing almost every hand and more the half of them vere eliminated within a first hour. I became chipleader when I got AA and got 5 callers. From 1000 chips in the beggining I had about 13000 after an hour. Then the game went realy slow. Blinds increase every 30minutes and it was more about stealing blindes. I got a strait flush 9,10,J,Q,K in and eliminate one german who had A 4 and also flush as the baord was A 9 10 turn Q river 4 I had a lot more intersting hands but I cant remeber them really. At about 7oclock I was at almost 28.000 when I made it to the final table. I have lost almost everything when I got QQ and went all in. At the board vere only small cards and I felt I have the highes pair. I went into triple 7. Then I had so litlle chips that I had to go all in with Q,10 and A,7 take me down as nobody paird anything. The guy who took me down won it all. Anyway I finished 5 and I have cashed 32.000 CK(cca1500$). I gave an interview and went home. It was awsome!

DO NOT toss in your cards until the dealer passes you the pot, even if you think everyone else has folded.
At the PCA I played a sit and go with a guy who was eliminated because he thought everybody had folded to his all-in and mucked his cards because he thought the dealer was getting ready to push the pot to him. Here's how i remember the story (I repeat it as I heard it, I did not see it). Guy is in the CO in the 9 seat. Folded to him and he pushes all-in. Guy in the 1 seat says "call", the dealer hears him, but the 9 seat doesn't. The blinds both fold immediately and the dealer starts pulling in their cards and chips. The 9 seat can't see the 1 seat's cards and thinks they all folded and tosses his cards in the muck. Long story short. The floor was called and it was ruled a fold and since the 1 seat had him covered, he was out. They never even dealt the board. Protect your cards, protect your cards, protect your cards. And hold them until the pot is in your hands.

Seriously, that's a BAD situation for you, but nice when you do hold up.

Wait.... getting all in preflop with AA is a bad situation? I mean, yeah, the more callers the more likely you are going to get cracked, but come on. You're still the favorite.

I was really nervous playing my first live donkament too, but I somehow parlayed that into a 14k finish.
A little advice for those playing at home, before playing an $8,000 buy-in event, it might be a wise decision to play a live tournament before then. |
