Default Theory Question

Monsters in the BB.

You have been folding like you have OCD on laundry day. The monotony of K5 is only rarely broken by the occasional J4. Then, like angels knocking at your door while you are out grocery shopping, you get dealt AA in the SB and EVERYONE FOLDS TO YOU

Do you always raise here (so J4 doesn't flop 2 pr and wreck your day)? If so, do you make it a standard PFR?

The basic point/question here is "do you do anything different in the blinds with monsters unraised to try and get post flop action? Or is it business as usual to avoid looking like Humpty Dumpty at the showdown?"

This depends on the BB's style. Do whatever you think might make him play back at you or call with a worse hand. Some players will raise a SB limp and some are only too happy to see a free flop with any two.

I think limping is only a good play to someone who will raise the SB limp 95% of the time (so that you can come over the top).

In general, without reads, raise it up 2-3x and hope they have a hand to call and flop a worse hand. You may get paid off from ANY flopped pair if they see you as trying to steal.

If you limp in the SB with other cards, you should mix in some limps with monsters. Just please don't limp/reraise if the person raises though. That line sucks so much. Makes people shut WAY WAY DOWN because people always have a monster there.

I just always raise because I suck in limped pots though.

In cases like this, where you've been quiet for a really long time, you're unlikely to get paid off by anything less than a slightly worse premium hand.

I still think the best line is to raise though, hopefully it will be viewed as a steal (or the BB has a hand).

Personally I try to stay at least a little active, even with shit hands, just to be ready for situations like this.

Another question you'll want to ask is - what do you normally do when in the SB and it's folded around? If you would normally call, then call, raise if you tend to raise - just don't fold if you tend to fold
