Today was a fun day.
Beause there were so many technical problems with yesterday's Battleship thing, Stars said they would pony up $4000 for four 8 player SNGs - a total freeroll.... Not everyone showed up (not even close) and we ended up having two 8 player tables (still $1000 each). Four players on my table, including myself, agreed to a $200 Last Longer bet. Ready to hear the seat assignments? I'll ignore the top internet players that you may or many not know, and tell you who was sitting directly to my right: Gavin Smith. To his right, Chris Moneymaker. To his right, Isabelle Mercier. Gotta love it! I'm happy to say I outlasted all of them (and took out Moneymaker), but I didn't win. Oh well.... Moneymaker had an interesting strategy: All in in the dark every hand. He oviously didn't care and wanted to go to the beach. I actualy folded A6 in the first hand in EP... Everyone else played seriously. I ended up getting busted when I got all in with TT vs. AT. He had a few more chips than me, and poof, I'm out 4th. Spent most of the day kicking around Atlantis. Went on the water slides with bdawg and his kids... DAMN that steep one is awesome! It's nearly vertical and you feel like you are just falling. Very cool. Went in the ocean for a bit after that. It was choppy enough that we could mess around in the waves, but I did some snorkelling too. Stopped by the $1500 tourney tonight just in time to see the bubble burst. With 21 players left, Isabelle Mercier reraised all in with JJ from the BB. She was quite short. The original raiser called with K6s and flopped a flush. She hit a useless Jack on the river, adding insult to injury. I have to tell you guys, I really like Isabelle. I certainly don't know her well yet, but she's really sweet. I'd like to get to know her better. Anyway, that's today's update. Tomorrow: Shark Dive. Last edited by Talking Poker; 01-10-06 at 04:48 AM. |

Too funny... I just left a few minutes ago (JUST after you posted this). I'm sure this won't be a problem sometime down the road though, if you are serious.
Tonight was great..... but TP needs some sleep now. |

Somehow, a signed photo is not what I think TP is trying to get in this situation...

TP, really great to read you are having a great time and the posts are fantastic, sounds like you enjoying this trip.
Isabelle is a stunning woman and an awesome poker player, she is a huge fav of my daughter Lisa who herself is a up and coming poker player We get to see quite alot of Isabelle on TV over here and it would be a fantastic pressent for Lisa if you could manage a signed photo to her from Isabelle. I understand if the opertunity doesnt arise so dont go out of your way if it doesnt, I would pay P&P through pokerstars if you manage. On another note it would be fantastic if you could get Isabelle to visit the forum and perhaps write an article about herself and her poker, try your best mate and GL.

Hey gang...
Time to go home. I'm in the lobby now, checking on the forum and email real quick. Going to check out and walk around the property for a little bit, and then off to the airport. Yesterday was another awesome day. I got up early, relative to when I went to bed, and went scuba diving. Did an AWESOME shark dive. The first dive was normal, in an area with lots of sharks around. The second dive was one of my favirite dives to date. It basically involved all of us sitting in a half circle, with a good 30-40 (maybe more?) sharks being fed in the middle of the circle. They were everywhere. And then would bang into you, etc... I got finned, tailed (smacked right in the face once), and even shouldered by these things. The one hit nearly knocked me over. I wasn't even remotely nervous, but I was concentrating to keep my hands in, so as to not get bitten I have some photos... I'll post one or two when I get home. Went to dinner when I got back and then to the Goodbye Party. Chatted with Lee Jones for a good 5-10 minutes (he was jealous of my diving adventures), and then bumped into Isabelle. She told me her mom was going to be defending her $30 SNG title (from the night before - long story), and asked if I wanted to play. Naturally, I couldn't resist. When we got to the card room, we set up a semi-private SNG tourney (bypassing the entire waiting list) - BJ (from CardPlayer) knew the guy running it, and he hooked us up. I got bdawg and Steve (stolz) to play, and we also has Isabelle, Isabelle's Mom, BJ, the CardPlayer Forum guy and his wife, and Paul from the WPT. There was also one dude who didn't know anyone that we let in to fill the table. Well............... we had SO MUCH fun playing this thing, that we actualy had railbirds, more side action that the prizepool, and a waiting list for the "second chance" tourney. LOL. In the second one, the random guy left, and we squeezed in Gavin Smith, Wil Wheaton, Adam (the "crying" guy from the WSOP) and one other girl I didn't know (WPT connection). Yup, TWELVE players! It was great. I didn't get anywhere in either tourney. Isabelle's KQ took out my TT in the first one (I was really short) and bdawg took me out of the second one with JJ vs my A7s (short again - I played the second one way too tight). BJ won the first tourney, and Isabelle took the second, defeating Wil - who is a very nice guy, as it turns out. I was seated to his left, and enjoyed chatting with him. bdawg finished 3rd in that one. Anyway, these two SNGs took hours and hours, but were just tons of fun. People were taking photos, video, etc. BJ promised some pics will make CardPlayer.com. It was pushing 2:30 when we finished up, so we said our goodbyes and went our separate ways. And there you have it. See you guys when I get across the pond. |

I was going to post this in another thread, but it's not even on the first page any more, so I'll put it in here...
So.... after this: I read about the game and thought it looked interesting. I stopped by the lobby again a bit later and they were still playing, so I asked if they would mind if I watched. What I MEANT was if I just watched how the game played out, but when Daniel said, "Sure, as logn as you promise not to tell him my cards," I took that as an invitation to sweat him, which is exactly what I did. We made some small talk and talked a bit about strategy after each "game" (or whatever each deal is called). About 45 minutes or so into it, Daniel is holding TT553322. There are also a TON of points in the pile, including the Qs and the Jd. If I'm understanding this correctly, if Daniel's opponent throws a T a 5, or a 3. he's going to really kick his ass. Well, the other guys picks up the pile and starts laying down all sorts of things. Daniel goes nuts and literally throws his cards into the air. They are all over the place. The guy starts laying down all his sets, and because of what Daniel did, I thought it was over. OOOOPPPPS. As he's picking his cards back up, I say to him, "So, if he had thrown a T, a 5 or a 3 there, you would have killed him, right? Daniel looks at me with a face I will never forget and says, "I thought you said you weren't going to tell him my hand. You just told him my entire hand." At this point, I realize the other guy didn't go out, and it wasn't over. Sumbitch. Fortunately, Daniel laid down TT2 and 332 immediately. He then drew a 4 and threw a 5, announcing that he was no longer going for 5s. FORTUNATELY, the other guy threw him a 4 next and he was able to go out. What I did definitely put him at a huge disadvantage, but I don't think it cost him any money... It's a good thing too. On his site, he gives an example about how to play $1/$3. Well, they were playing $300/$900!!! Can you imagine??? Stupid, stupid, stupid me. Daniel was cool about it after that, and I only stuck around another 15 or 20 minutes... When I bumped into him the next day, he smiled and said, "Hey bro," so I think we're cool. God damn I felt stupid though! |

Bizarre game
Interesting anecdote – great reporting on this whole trip, BTW. Is this game played in casinos? If I was playing any card game against an opponent and they start “literally throwing their cards into the air,” I’d want the hand ruled dead.
